St. Joseph School Superpowered Youth Registration Form
“Today’s students are tomorrow’s heroes”

Alias: Barrier
Birth Name: Saskia Smith (Smith, of course, is the name that child services slapped on the birth records)
Age: 15
Birthplace: Paragon City

Origin of Powers: Innate Superadine Mutation. Saskia's parents were both heavy superadine users in the Trolls. Somehow, the drug affected Saskia in the womb, and she was born with her abilities.

Powers/Abilities: Saskia can draw earth and stone from her surroundings and manipulate it into a kind of armored covering. She also possesses superior strength and incredible endurance.

Extracurriculars: If it is played on a court or field, Saskia has given it a try. She excels at all things physical. It is strongly recommended that she receive encouragement to find outlets for her mind as well.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Barrier... long story... go it when i was growing up... Actually Barrier is way better than what the kids that didnt like me called me. See, i had a sort of bad temper, and led to everyone calling me the "Green Meany". I tried really hard and got some help, now i am pretty mild mannered if i do say so myselft.

So, where do i start?

Well apparently my mom, or someone, left me at an orphanage when i was a baby. I grew up with foster parents and all that jazz, it really kind of sucked actually. Everyone was afraid of me even though i was small, i looked like a troll, and sort of am i guess...

I dont really understand it, and the doctors don't quite know either... They believe that i was some how conceived by a troll father perhaps, I am only half troll but the Green Genes totally took over in the whole appearance department...

Also my father was presumably a Superdine freak, because even though i have never seen it myself, it sure is pumping through my veings. That is where i get my super powers from. Because of the surveillance done by the cops, the doctors believe that because of my similarities, power wise, to the type of troll called a "Ogre" that my father was most likely on of those.

Thankfully i do look different than a troll though, at least a little bit. I have hair... HURRAY!! There are also a few traits, like the blue instead of green horns, and the weird freckles that i cant get rid of, that point out the fact that I'm not entirely a troll.

Anyway enough about me, lets talk about Saint Joe's.

Because of my inability to feel very comfortable around normal people, it was decided that St. Joe's would be good for me... you know make me feel like im not alone and all that. Which is great, I love it. There is even a full troll here!

Everyone i have met so far is REALLY nice and i am looking forward to meeting the rest of you.

I will see you all around...

Update, Feb 2006

Well, I am back. But of a slightly different mind.

About four months ago, I was allowed for the first time to see some of the files that child services had sealed away so long ago. Some things that I thought I knew were lies, and some things I never would have imagined have become the story of my life.

I learned that both of my parents were in with the Trolls. I learned that they had criminal records. And I learned their names. Child services, and the Paragon PD had known about them the whole time. They even had a last known address!

So I did a really dumb thing, and for that, I'm sorry: I dropped out and went looking for them. The Trolls I met told me they knew my folks, but they asked for things in return for the information. And simple chores turned into more and more complicated tasks, until I had become a kind of indentured servant. And all the time, they kept dosing me with supes. Interestingly, it doesn't seem to have any effect on me whatsoever. Not even a buzz.

I spent almost three months with them, wasting my life. And it wasn't until just a few weeks ago that I finally realized that the Trolls had no idea who my folks were, or where to find them. So I left. I wandered around for a few days, wondering what to do, where to go. It was really hard to try to come back, to make that phone call. But Gemini was more than overjoyed to hear I was still alive.

And so I'm back. And I couldn't be happier! I missed all of you so much, and again, I'm so sorry that I freaked out and left without a word. I'm settling back into the dorms this week. I guess most of my stuff was put into storage in the cellar.

So, the queen of the athletic field is back! Since I only missed the off-season, Coach Waters didn't even make me give up my captain's spot on the field hockey team. Soccer is on like Donkey Kong once the snow starts melting, and I think it's high time we had a womens' lacrosse team. And women's rugby. Damn, I wanna take to the pitch!

OOC Character Update, April 2006

Barrier has not changed much since her return to SJS. But I will point out a few things.

Barrier is in the jock/bully clique with Tolliver, Biff, Jack Tower, and the various NPCs who have been associated with them. While Saskia herself is not a bully, she tolerates it from the others, thereby endorsing it. She has her lines, and her arrangements, but they are often called into question, and outright ignored when she's not around.

Her absence from SJS had affected her friendship with Biff, though Barrier is only passingly aware of it. Biff found that he missed her a lot, in an emotional fashion, and now that she is back he has started to look at her more like a girl than he ever did before. They still roughhouse and play ultimate frisbee together, but it's just starting to get a little awkward.

This limited understanding of her own femininity makes Saskia feel weak. She has always assumed that one day, she will start the slow deevolution into the genderless brute that all Trolls eventually become. But it hasn't started yet. And the longer it takes, the more Saskia finds herself embarrassed.

OOC Character Update, January 2008

The past year has been full of serious up's and down's for Saskia. She's seen her friendships fluctuate, and her own opinion of herself reach a crisis point.

The most pivotal event in the last year for Saskia was the arrival of Quillexto Saint Joe's. After Quillex was offered a way to counteract the effects of Superadine on his system, allowing him to regain a his human appearance, Saskia began hounding GIFT and SERAPH (and to a lesser extent, the administration of SJS, who have legal custody of her) to be allowed to take part in the test. She was soundly denied, as her genetic mutations were with her from birth, and not the result of any accidental or deliberate Superadine exposure. Saskia spent weeks trying to get around it, but her opposition was resolute. She was eventually caught trying to break into the SERAPH facility on her own, determined to get her hands on the "cure." Saskia spent a couple weeks under "house arrest" on campus, and was required to go through psychological evaluation after that. When news reached Saskia that Quillex's treatment was unsuccessful, she was sent into an emotional tailspin. Though she still went through the motions at field hockey and in the classroom, her heart simply wasn't in it, and her mind was far away.

Eventually, Saskia began to rally, and she took a certain joy in campaigning for Biff for homecoming king. When Nigel Barlow-- an upstart and not even from Saint Joe's!-- won the crown, Saskia took it personally. She's not "out to get him" in a conventional way, but she's secretly hoping someone will forget to block for him and he'll miss a couple games from injuries. A girl can hope.

Finally, news of Erika's impending graduation and departure has Saskia conflicted. "Ricky-Ray" is one of Saskia's closest girlfriends, since Saskia's friendship with Stasis has become strained lately as Stasis seems to be easing more and more often into a "soft" feminine role (nice dress, sellout!) The news that Erika is going off, to points unknown, leaves Saskia feeling a little depressed. At the same time, she has high hopes for Erika's future, so it's a bittersweet time right now.

Visit definately, coffee definately not. Stuff stunts your growth, and too much caffeine can wreak havoc on your natural rhythm. I will, however, bring by a bottle or two of mineral water.
