Once upon a time, we had what you might call a modscalpel: we would go in and snip problematic or offensive parts out of the larger post. Gradually, I realized that editing a post can change the meaning of it. Also, when we edit posts, someone could view our Moderators as biased: why did we edit this much out of one post but that much out of another? It was a problem waiting to happen.
So now, when a post gets modhammered, here's what happens.
- The entire post will simply be removed and replaced with a notification of who hammered it.
- The original text of the post will be copied to an archive thread in the Student Council forums for reference.
- The poster will be notified that their post was modhammered and why.
- The poster will then have the opportunity to re-post and self-correct.
Thank you.
