Simon tried to finish his homework for english, but he kept thinking of Annie, and what Broadway had said. The more he tried to put it off, the less he was able to focus. He needed to talk. And now was going to be the time. Standing up, he gathered his books, and placed them into his bookbag.
A few moments later, he stood at Annie's door. His heart was so heavy here. but there was more than just his sadness that made his heart heavy. It was also his own anger and pain. He knew he would never be able to express it even in one night, but Annie had to know a few things, even if his own friendship with her was through. Slowly, he cleared his throat, then reachup, and knocked upon the door to Girl's Quad 1.

Annie was alone in Quad 1 again. Cricket was out trying to stop Crey from dumping some labratory waste where they shouldn't be, and Francis was patroling with Miz.
When the knock came, she was in her red flannel pajamas and barefoot, having sat down a while ago to try and read some of the books Seraph had given her with some of the new notes for her to compare words to. It was slow going, but she thought she was finally starting to understand the old Earth words and how they were being used.
So, barefoot, hair lose, and in her pajamas, Annie opened the door.
Simon. Still it stung a bit that he had lied, but a lot of the others kept saying that what he had done wasn't a bad thing in a human's eyes, that he had done it to help her.
But Annie wasn't human, and she still didn't like that it happened. But she also didn't want to hurt his feelings for doing something that came natural to a human.
"Oh! H-hi, Simon...... how are you?"

Simon looked to the ground. The fact was, he wasn't doing well at all. He wouldn't lie, but he didn't want her to worry over his feelings.
"I wish I could say well," Simon said in a very good neutral accent, as it took all of his concentration to speak. "Is there any way we can have a few words, Annie? I have some things to explain to you, and not all of them will be pleasant. Rather, they aren't from my perspective."
His heart was in his throat, and his blood burned hotly in his veins. He wanted to do and say this right. She didn't need to hurt, because of this.

Annie looked back and forth along the hallway in the building that held Quad 1. Biting her lower lip, she almost seemed to be considering what the right thing to do would be.
"Uhmmmm, OK. I think the Wingra Tree should be pretty empty right now..."
Turning back in, Annie made a sort of whistling noise.
"Pookati! Zerknablitz rell, ooglaboot wist. Frastikiti Hloogle, frastikiti!"
The sound of jangling metal and scritching claws was all of a sudden heard from somewhere inside of the girl's quad. "Patooi!"
Reaching down, Annie made a distinctly happy sound and then turned back with her keys in hand. Stepping out, her bare green feet padded on the hardwood floor and the light showed off the soft sheen of her microscales. After closing the door, she turned back to the bespeckled boy.
"Does that sound okay?"

"Yeah," he nodded, as he poked his hands into his pockets, and began to walk to the tree.
All the way there he mulled his words over. He cared for Annie. She was a great friend, and for that he wanted to spare her this. But, he would not be a good friend back, if he didn't show her about words. It always came down to words. He hated speaking. It always got in the way. Finally they arrived, and he pulled his jacket off, lying it across the concrete and iron bench that was there, and gestured for Annie to have a seat. He sat in the grass, and pulled his knees to himself, and slowly inhaled, then slowly exhaled.
"So," he said after a moment. "Are you ready?"

"Annie," he said, voice trembling slightly. "Ah wronged you. For that, Ah am disgraced. But, Ah did not lie. Ah speculated a turn of events would occur, and was wrong. That makes me guilty of having spoken without proper evidence of truth. A lie is spoken to intentionally deceive, and Ah resent being called a liar. Ah'm a better person than that."
Large, shimmering tears welled up in his eyes as he prepared for the inevitable cast off. This next part was hard to say, but he had to. For her sake, he had to. The chill of the night, and the dampness of the grass no longer mattered to the boy. This whole affair was ripping his heart to shreds. He'd never done anything like this, ever, and it was such a terrible feeling to have to carry.
"But, the fact remains, that Ah caused you greif, and Ah cannot be found innocent of that, even if my intentions were noble. Ah would not blame you, if you decided to dissolve our friendship. Ah deserve it. All Ah ask, is that you accept my appologies, and find it in your heart to at least not scorn me."

Biting her lower lip again, Annie got more and more nervous by what was happening.
He was crying. Human boys don't cry. She had never ever seen it before. They screamed, they yelled, they got sad, they said words that made other people hurt, they even ran away. But Annie had never seen a human boy in the school cry before. And then she realized that she was the one who made him cry. She had made it so he felt that sad.
"You may not have seen it as a lie..... and maybe for a human it is different. But where I come from, half of us are all, like, psionic and stuff. Telling a lie isn't impossible; but if you do say something that isn't true, and you're found out, it's seen as the highest insult you can give. Because of that, we're really really sensitive about anything being told that something is happening that isn't. Which is how I saw what you told me. You wanted to show me something, something that wasn't there. To my people, that is a lie.
But you're not from Tau Ceti. You're from Earth. It's totally unfair of me to say that you should see this like a person that's grown up with a daddy..."
Annie's breath catched for a second as she remembered her father's face. His eyes, his voice. The way he scolded her as a child, and the way he held her when her mother died.
"....a daddy that can sense what it is that you're thinking, and can sense when you've done something you weren't supposed to."
Annie looked at Simon, trying hard to stop seeing him as yet another race that she went to school with, a race that knew what they should and shouldn't do around her from a cultural standpoint.
"You are not a Human Liar. You did what you thought was right when there was trouble, and you reacted how a human would. I need to remember that more."
Annie closed her eyes then, trying to think about what it was that she was going to exactly say next.

"Annie... Our relationship means the world to me," he said, pulling himself back together. "But, if it means you have to stop being who you are, then I don't want it. You're this really happy person that made my own happiness seem to feel multiplied. If I don't make you happy, then that saddens me. And... I'm not into sadness. There are too many things to celebrate to be weighted down by silly sadnesses and angers."
He smiled a little, wiping an eye, and letting the diluted plsma energy dissipate, so she could see it better, as he help it up between them.
"Those need laughter attached. Not the silence of broken hearts. Want to try to start over again? I'm new to the whole "alien as a friend, and maybe later, something else" type relationship. I'll make mistakes. But, I'll never do anything to hurt you, if I can help it, or am aware it will. I'm sorry for being closed minded and inattentive. And most of all for insulting you. I would do anything to take it back. I swear it."

"S-Simon, please, don't think I hate you, I was hurt by, like, what it was that you did. And you are forgiven, but please understand that I am so totally not human! I see things differently than so many around here, but I love this planet so much that I want to help it be a better place. I don't want Earth to be Tau Ceti Beta, I want Earth to be Earth and Earthlings to be Earthlings. So I need to learn more about what it is that humans see, and what they feel."
Unfolding herself from her sitting position, Annie moved to kneel down next to the distraught Simon.
"I know that you are a good human, and I still want to call you my friend. I don't want to start over, because then I don't learn anything. So, Simon St. James, you need to keep being the human you should be, and I will keep being the Tau Cetian I should be. I can't say that everything will always be happy, but I don't want to lose a friend over this. I trust that you woun't try and hurt me, and I see now that you never tried to before."
Reaching out, Annie hugged Simon, trying to show him that he was trusted again.
"Now, you look tired. You should sleep before Sister Mary Moltar catches you."

Simon smiled a little. He was tired, but he was now quite happy.
"There! See? Just a bump in the road, son," he could almost hear his father saying to him.
The boy reached across, and hugged Annie back. While doing so, he began to glance around. Where was Annie's pet? This couldn't be good. Oh. Yeah. That was right. She spoke to the animal, before leaving. Pookie was an animal, right?
Simon chuckled a little. Annie was such a patient young woman! Even if nothing ever happened, Simon was lucky to have her in his life. And, THAT was what made him better than the other guys! He could be her friend, and not need to put overtones on it. Well, he hoped he could, anyway.
"So, how ya been, gal?"

"Me? Well... my translator's been giving me more and more troubles lately. There are a couple of people that think they can help, but it's not earth-based technology, so I can, like, only hope they find something close enough to repair some of the circuts. I've been trying really hard lately, and my poor translator just wasn't built to take that much punishment! And then, like, I want to try and do a bit of vacationing over the summer. I've heard that there's a palace somewhere made totally out of CORN! Isn't that amazing! And then I want to see monument made out of used cars!"
Annie got up and started moving back to her Quad. It was late, and she still hadn't finished her homework yet. But, if Simon wanted to walk her back, she understood that that was a polite thing to do with humans.
