First day - First encounter

Post by Broadway »

Jason opened his locker and was in the process of switching out books for class when the door slammed shut with a loud *CLANG*.

Jason wheeled, startled by the loud noise, only to realize he was staring into the chest of a large, no make that HUGE student.

“Hey songbird, welcome to ‘Freak High’. Saw your show this morning, with all the tv and limos, and figured I’d give you a quick lesson on how things work around here. It works on simple wants and needs. If I want it, you NEED to give it to me, got it?” The malicious grin spread across the boy’s mouth.

“HA! That’s a good one, Biff” One of the bully’s cronies chimed in.

Biff? Aw crap, Biff?? This is the guy the other students warned me about. Jason looked around for any avenue of help, but the hallway had become amazingly, and immediately vacant. Great…a school full of heroes, and not one to be found.

“Know what I want right now, songbird? About $100, that I’m sure you’ve got in your wallet. Call it a gift to an overly concerned friend.” Biff grinned at what he thought was an amazingly clever idea. “I’m concerned that if you don’t give me the money, something really terrible is going to happen when my fist connects with your face.”

“Look, Biff, there’s no need to…” *WHANG* Jason winced as Biff’s ham-sized fist rattled the whole row of lockers.

“I’ll tell you when you can talk! In the meantime, fork over the money.”

Think, Berezhin, there’s got to be a way out of this that doesn’t end in your being in the infirmary. Jason looked to the empty hall, and a slight grin played across his mouth, and he straightened up to his full height, and looked slightly over Biff’s shoulder, and his eyes widened “..oh shit” he muttered.

“Mr. Hannigan! Is there a reason for accosting Mr. Berezhin , and denting school property? Extortion is a SERIOUS offense young man.” Sir Arthur Winston III’s voice rang out in the hall from behind Biff.

Biff and his cronies wheeled, quickly and nervously in response to the Headmaster’s voice.

Biff turned, already trying to formulate some excuse to save him from yet another day of detention. “No sir, I wasn’t….Huh?” Biff’s expression turned from nervousness to confusion when he turned to stare straight into…an empty hallway. “What the hell?”

Jason waited till he was sure the bully’s mind was fully engrossed in the mystery, and then took off at a full sprint down the hallway for somewhere much more public, and populated. Never thought being a mimic and throwing my voice would ever save my ass, but there’s a first for everything. Jason’s famous smile lit his face, the thrill of a narrow escape buoying his mood.

Nicely done!

I think you captured Biff well (not that it's hard) and grats on finding a way out of it that did not actually involve violence (there's been a bit of that lately).

Great piece!

( I second that, but wanted Mimi to get first crack at it! You rock! )

(when in doubt, run like hell!

muahah! welcome and like, stuff. remember the rules and it will all work out - honest. just stick to the game plan.

as a side note, does anyone else notice that Hannigan gets to meet all the new kids before everyone else? does the guy have New Kid Radar or something, because if so, I want it.)
"So pay attention to me; I don't talk for my health."
"I want you on my team."
"... So does everybody else."
