Let me recount a tale of lost love and hardship..hell I'm in detention again and good Ole Mary thinks I'm doing homework.
It was probably a year ago.. just before my last trip to the hospital(then jail again). Mom and dad were having This huge gallery opening.. lots of big names and hot shots were attending.. So to my dismay i was told to attend( important people needed to see us working as the perfect nuclear family).
Then I saw her, Angelique, she was a model/actress/singer type fresh in from the country, had an agent and everything set to be the next big thing. She had like 2 movie deals and an album contract in the works. Totally loaded if you get my grip. Come to find out she was really down to earth and really laid back. we dated a bit, movies, dinner, that sort of thing( at 16 i didn't have too much of an allowance for extravagance.)
We were awesome.. she was amazing.. I KNEW she was the IT. Until she found out I moonlighted as a hero. she was freaked at first. I mean she was famous but i was a HERO. then came the 'do you know the Statesman' questions that always follow. She begged me for months to come on a patrol with me, pleaded even. She wanted to know what it was like, wanted to be a hero
So there i am one night busting Hellions and here she comes vaulting a fence, full on, charging right through a group of them. I thought she was totally nuts. When the dust settled there we were. a group of Hellions scattered around us in a heap, me with busted ribs, her with a black eye. It was our most perfect moment. 'Where did these powers come from? you ask'. Well I did, she apparently knew a high up pharmaceuticals rep who scored a batch of Superadine for her; instant superpowers.
we fought over the issue for the rest of the night. as much as I loved her being there with me it wasn't safe for her to take drugs. She agreed to stop, but wanted to continue to help with logistics and support. I wearily agreed( worst mistake ever). She provided invaluable information that helped save many, many lives, but I could see the pain in her eyes every time I left to fight crime. On a particularly rough clockwork case I had been working on, she appeared again.. this time even more powerful. When I confronted her she became defensive and standoffish.( at the time i thought she was just being a girl. I'm a guy I don't' know girl code)
She broke things off for a awhile, refusing to return my calls, or see me. she was intent on being a hero and had been taking steady doses of hyped up Super-D. Well she did show up again, this time much stronger and slightly green. She had been using the drug for months now and had become so addicted to it that she had some at every meal it seemed. We argued a bit, she huffed and puffed. apparently she was boasting of having a new boyfriend and not needing me anymore. I was so angry i didn't care and stormed off.
I figured that was it. I hit the streets with a vengeance busting every troll I could find.. taking my frustrations out on some real bad guys. I got a hot tip on a new troll boss named Hammerhead, apparently he was a big time mover and shaker. After a few nights staking out his hideout in the Hollows I was ready to move. It was flawless. every piece fell into place perfectly.. Within minutes I was face to face with a huge troll, one tusk broken off and an evil glint in his eye.
'Aren't you going to say hi' was all i heard.. spinning around quickly I was shocked to see Angelique, now massive and VERY green. 'Playing hero again?' I asked. Her answer was aright cross that broke my jaw and sent me reeling. When i finally came to my senses I saw her and Hammerhead laughing and hugging. Set up. Man was I stupid.
I don't know how I survived the beating I took that night. I think my heart is still bleeding from the betrayal. Needless to say her agent and managers were none too happy, and had the great Idea to blame me. She had apparently ran off with said troll Boss to set up a bigger network in 'boomtown'. She was missing and it was my fault. So there I lay Jaw wired shut, cast on my arm, and cops guarding my room. 3 months of rehab and then to jail. the judge ruled in my favor, but only just.
not long after that dad fount out about St. Joe's. wasn't a hard decision. get me out before I ruined his name anymore.
as for the one that got away. good riddance. haven't spent time in the hospital since.. so there's a bright side already.
