“Tell Me More” Conversation 1

“You know, I hate it when you do that.” “Talking to me when I am in the middle of a conversation” Mirage proclaims to her mental inhabitant who just interrupted mid order of her cup of cocoa.

“Well, I like the mental approach. It helps you to look a Little less…crazy” “I mean, I could always just speak through you, that would be fun” Shanoria jokes. The waitress looks at Mirage confused wondering what’s going on in the front of her and would the blue girl just order already, she’s holding up the line.

“That’s so not funny Shadow.” She says. “Two years…well a year and a half with you around, you would think that I’d be used to this by now” Mirage thinks. “Yea, you would think” snaps Shanoria, Mirage follows with an aggravated sigh.

The waitress grows restless with Mirages blankness and blasts “Would you hurry up and order already.” She breaks her daze and slowly locks her eyes on the waitress. Her deep ocean colored eyes quickly darkens to a purplish color then slowly fades to a maroon red.

Then a voice that hasn’t spoken through her in a while emerges forth. Still dual toned, one high and one low. “She was talking to me” Shanoria calmly states. The waitress turns pale, shocked at the sudden change in the girl, as she finishes. “As of now, I take precedence over you and her little cocoa, so…I will appreciate it if you not be rude and interrupt us again, or I will be forced to rip your h-.“ “Shanoria NO” Mirage barks. She looks at the waitress shocked and embarrassed by Shanoria’s…blunt approach. Saying while placing a five dollar bill on the counter, “please, just give me the damned cocoa.”

The waitress reaches for the money shaken and disturbed “ok…um…miss, I…wi…will be right back” she turned around, slightly off balance swaying a little still noticeable shocked from the encounter that she just had with the blue girl and whatever inhabited her mind, walking to the machines that sat on the back counter to prepare the beverage.

“That…was…that was just rude Shadow” Mirage mentally projects to her. “No Mirage…what she did, that dear girl was rude.” Shanoria replies back. “Well, did you really have to scare her like that” “You mean did we really have to scare her like that, you were the one that blasted out when I was talking, besides, you stopped me before I even got the chance to really scare her.” laughs Shanoria.

The waitress returns holding the cup of cocoa by the cardboard looking heat protector in both hands, appearing to protect it from spilling also protecting herself from the blue girl at the counter in front of her. “There you go” she extends the cup forward. “Thank you” Mirage meekly replies “and…I, um…I apologize about…her” Mirage says pointing a finger to her head. She takes the cup and turns around facing the people in the line behind her, the first two people in line look at her then clear her way. Mirage sadly lowers her head in disgust and walks forward. She finds an empty couch to sit on in the lounge area and takes a seat; the black leather couch quickly swallows her, as she leans back, catching herself balancing her cocoa and leans forward placing it on the table in front of her. “Thanks Shanoria…for alienating me once again” “No problem, maybe its best.”

“Why is it best…why do you want to be alone” Mirage asks. “It’s not that I want to be alone child, I just don’t need any type of hindrance” Mentally projects Shanoria. “Hindrance?” asks Mirage. “Is that what you think of me?” “Oh yea, that’s what I think of you, that’s why I stay with you and lend my powers to you” Shanoria smirks. “Right now really isn’t the time to be a smart ass” Mirage snaps “besides your powers suck, they drain me” Mirage replies, taking a sip of her cocoa. “Excuse me” Shanoria blasts slowly angering as she extends shadow thread from Mirage. Mirage laughs “calm down demon girl, I was only playing” Giggles Mirage.

“Seriously though, what do you mean hindrance?” Mirages mind blanks of any mental conversation as her question was echoed with no answer. “Shanoria, talk to me…you’re not mad about the joke are you, I was only goofing.” Mirage shudders a bit grabbing and rubbing her arms as a cold chill runs across her body. She quickly notices feelings of pain and sorrow, the most being the cold emptiness of regret and betrayal. A single ruby colored tear runs down her blue cheek. She extends her hand up to her cheek to catch the tear before it falls from her face, she wipes it away eyes wide as she looks at her hand thinking these aren’t my feelings, looking at her hand still shocked and this isn’t my tear. “Shanoria?”

"Tell Me More" Conversation 2

Its late evening on a Saturday. My time was not occupied with any social endeavors, so I did what came naturally…what I loved…my nerve calmer, I trained.

I jumped and jumped thinking to myself, I hate jumping rope. This would get my feet faster and make me more coordinated. That’s what I told myself, trying to look at the lighter side as my heart pounded at the expedient rate that supposedly built cardio. Hands flailing to my side as I spun the rope around my body as fast as I possibly could; beads of sweat rolling down my face, into my eyes and mouth. The taste, of course, salty; that same salt burning the hell out of my eyes, turning them red. I could and wanted to stop, but, you can’t stop during a fight…no matter, how much pain, no matter how much sweat flooded my eyes. I had to keep going…I trained how I fought. I trained for war.

“Mirage” the spurious sounding voice chimed in.

“What” I answered distraught at the thought that once again she was bothering me in the middle of something. We have talked and argued about this countless times, it’s never going to change. “What Shanoria” I answer again, even the voice of myself in my mind sounded worn-out from the vigorous work out I have been putting myself through for the pass five hours, I still had two to go. “You gonna answer or just continue to interrupt my routine” Maybe I shouldn’t be so mean, but we talked about this.

I hear a sigh in my head then she responds “I’m ready.”

“Ready for what” I spit out, still jumping and spinning the rope, listening to it whip through the air like helicopter blades slicing through the sky. The rope slapping the floor as it passed under my feet, fatigue really starting to set in. “Ready for what Shanoria” My mind had no energy to even think of a retort for her comment.

“I’m ready…ready to tell you what you want to know.” “Ready to answer your questions, ready to tell you more.”
I stopped suddenly, maybe that wasn’t such a good idea, as the rope slapped my shin. My muscles tightened and my heart couldn’t decide whether it wanted to stop or continue beating a hole through my rib cage. Thankfully for me, it chose the latter.

“Are you insane girl, why would you just stop like that, you know to cool down first?” The voice chastised me.

“Sorry Shanoria” I lightly answered “So, you’re ready?”

“Yes, you need to know more, I’m willing to tell you more, and maybe it’s time you learn why I fight.” “Maybe it’s also time you learn more to my past.”

I smiled, relieved, thinking it’s about damn time. “I guess I can call it quits early today.” “First, I need to shower before we talk about anything.” I notice my bag where I left it, beside the bench. Taking my hand wraps off while walking over to it, I throw the jump rope into the gym bag, followed by the wraps. Picking up the bag I head towards the showers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I stand there letting the water run down my body. The beads of water beating against me, massaging my sore muscles. I run my hands through my dark purple strands of hair. My head raised up, face under the shower nozzle letting the pearls of water flow down my face as steam fills the shower. This feels good I thought standing there continuing to let the water run down my face.
Why is Shanoria so quiet, I thought? “Shadow…you around?” that was a question I wish I wouldn’t have asked, let alone said aloud. How was she gonna go anywhere? I chuckled “Ok…that was a dumb question…I—“Midway, I was stopped as I seemed to just stand there, oblivious to what was going on around me, in a trance. Wish she would have warned me first.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I opened my eyes, looking around at the unfamiliar setting. Where was I? Wasn’t I just in the shower? How’d I get here? The questions rushed my mind as fear set in. Shower, the thought hit me as I went to cover myself, then I realized, I was fully clothed. “Okay…weird” the words echoed in my mind as the left my mouth. I grab my head and look around. “Orchid, If this is some kind of joke…I’m gonna break your jaw” I boasted, knowing that I have never beat her in a fight.

“Your sister has nothing to do with this Mira.”

The voice came from behind me. It was familiar, still two toned. I turned around to meet the owner of the words. All that stood in front of me was shadow fog, in the silhouette of a woman. “Sha—Shanoria?” The fog moved closer, I step back, still uncomfortable with her in this form.

“Yes Mira, It is I.” She looks at me, eyes red like blood. “I’m sorry; let me go into my other form.” The fog slowly dissipates from head to toe revealing jet black hair, skin as dark as a moonless midnight sky, her eyes piercing red. Her hair flowed similar to the length of my own. Her body toned, slim, yet curvaceous…and there it was…the tail. Her form should be horrifying; instead she was the most beautiful thing I have laid eyes on, paralleling only to my mother.

“You’re…you’re beautiful.” I tried to say the words profound. Instead they came out like a shy school girl talking to the star quarterback.

“Thank you.” “I can only hold this form in you though, part of my banishment I guess, when I’m in the world I can only hold the form of a shadow or fog.”

“Oh” I replied. Then her words registered, in you, “In me” I voiced. “What do you mean, in me” I looked around, noticing the jagged rocks skewing from the ground some as tall as skyscrapers. Seemingly building the landscape “What is this place.”

She smiled at me, reveling two sets of fangs on both her lower and upper rows of teeth, her eyes rippling like a pond that just had a pebble cast into it. “This place…this place is your mind darling.”

“Oh…what, this is my mind.” I look around at the place. The thought that comes to mind was a line from my favorite movie; I said the line as I thought it. “This is like Dr. Seuss’s worst nightmare.” I look over to Shanoria “Maybe you should remodel.”

Shanoria looked at me with this dubious look on her face almost saying I can’t believe you. “This is your mind…you have to remodel this, besides, I…like it.”

“You would” I muttered as I watched this weird white cloud looking thing float by, I reached out to touch it.

“Hey”

“What” I replied back “Why are you yelling at me?”

“Don’t touch that Mira.”

“What…Why?”

“You remember your bunny Fluff” She asked.

“Who”

“That’s why you don’t touch the pretty clouds.”

I thought then realized what it was, looking around to see at least three dozen more “Are those my memories” I proclaimed, shocked.

“Yea” she answered reluctantly.

“You erased my memory” I jawed, annoyed at her clumsiness.

“Oh hush…It was an accident.”

“What?”

“It was just a damn bunny…there's one running around your school if you want another one that bad.”

I gasped, shocked at her words. How could she be so beautiful and so heartless? “It was my bunny dammit” I gasp again “did you erase any of my other memories?”

“Shut up with the f***ing bunny!” “I knew I shouldn’t of brought that up…and no, I didn’t, so stop being emotional.” “You came to ask about me…not about the bunny.” “That’s why I brought you here.” “So, ask questions…before I kick you out of your own head.”

Gosh, I must of really made her mad. She was right though, this was our chance to talk, my time to get to know her. This was our vis-à-vis.

I looked at her, smiling from ear to ear, ecstatic about the endeavors ahead. “Ok then Shadow…let’s get started.”

She looked at me, her lips breaking apart as words leaked forward. “What’s your first question?”

“Questions”

“So, what’s your first question?” Shanoria’s words echoed in my mind as I walked from the bathroom to my bed. Reminiscing the question that I spat out and the resolve shot back at me in its entirety.

I sat at the edge of my bed staring over into my quad-mates dwelling areas, not really paying attention to their areas, just gazing off into space, as the nostalgic thoughts played through my mind like an old film.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was my chance; I could ask her any thing that I wanted. Was I her pawn in some sort diabolical plot to bring hell to earth? Was I her key to taking over hell? What was up with me crying tears of blood in the coffee shop about a month prior? Why, did she agree to inhabit me, when she could have just chowed down on my soul like a t-bone steak?
So many questions I could have asked so many answers I could have received. The only question that popped into my head was something that bothered me more than any of the other questions.
Slowly, bring my cheeky grin to a more serious face, looking into her blood red eyes, still rippling away. I pressed my lips together, biting the bottom one, before opening my mouth to canvass this burning question that could unnerve us both.
“Who is Nivea’?” After asking, I felt maybe it weren’t such a good idea as I saw her facial expression morph to the way it looked when I had first conjured her. I coward away expecting to feel her wrath, but instead she turned away from me.
“Who is Nivea’ Shanoria?” I asked again in a low tone, hoping that I didn’t break through the thin sheet of ice that I was already skating on.
Things remained quiet for a bit after the question. I didn’t want to push the issue, so I waited for her to answer and in the mean time thinking of another question to ask to change the subject.
“Where, did you hear…that name?” Her voice crept forward, breaking the silence that hung over us like a dark cloud.
“Fr-from you” I answered, my voice shaking like a leaf in the wind.
“Y-you called me that name many times, and I heard you apologize to Nivea’ a couple of times before.”
“I would usually hear the apologies late at night…your voice didn’t sound normal” I continued, lowering my voice knowing that then, I had more than likely crossed the line…She was definitely gonna eat my soul now.
“So, I figured that I would ask” I finished in a low whisper.
"You can ask about anything, but that.” She answered, a lot calmer than I expected, her back still facing me.
“What why?”
“It does not concern you.”
“Hold on Shanoria.” I snapped back
“Your inside of me…everything about you concerns me, whether you like it or not.” I continued to chastise her as she had done me so many times. Partially realizing as I blurted on with my dispute, Shanoria had slowly turned to face me, once realizing, I instantly closed my mouth and thought “Oh shit, this is it”.
Instead every ounce of fear left me as I looked at her and the ruby colored liquid streaming down her twilight cheeks. The blood tears, it WAS her.
“Mira, please…it doesn’t concern you.”
Ok, this was one hell of a twist with the tears and all, was this Shanoria. This Nivea' person obviously meant more than I thought. I stood there silent still distracted by disbelief.
I didn’t know what to say next but the words “ok” some how found my mouth.
Shanoria wiped her tears away, somewhat snickering, obviously thinking that I gave up. “You wouldn’t understand anyway.”
Of course she would do that, she wouldn’t be the smart ass that I have grown to love if she didn’t temp me some kind of way.
“Try me!” I blurted out, words once again leaving my mouth.
“Try me!” I repeated.
She looked at me grinning, “You so damn persistent…you know, you remind me a lot of her".
“You aren’t going to move on to another question are you?”
“No, I wasn’t planning on it and since you wanted to be a smart ass, and fake the tears, I sure as hell ain’t gonna move on now.”
She rolled her eyes are me “Fine…I guess I have no choice but to tell you then.”
“Yea, I guess so.” I said hesitantly.
She looked dead at me, he eyes seeming to burn a hole in my soul. “Well, you weren’t my first inhabitant.”
“First…inhabitant?” I repeated, stumbling into a half assed question.
“Yes” she answered. “You weren’t the first”
I already figured that I wasn’t the first, but, to actually be told about the first was…cool. In a way, I felt like this conversation was going to answer some, if not all, of my questions.
“Ok…so, was she the first?”
“Yes she was…”
“Oh…so…what does that make me?”
“Nosey!” she snapped, “Can I finish please?”
“Um, sure…go right ahead, I’m all ears.” I gestured.
“She was the first, and…unlikely inhabitation.”
“Unlikely?”
“She was a lot like you…she wanted my assistance for good intentions…this all went on in the early 1200’s.”
1200’s I thought, I wanted so bad to ask her how long had she been around…but I knew where that would lead, so I bit my tongue and let her continue.
“She had powers though…some sort of invincibility and super strength.”
“So what did she need you for?” I asked, not realizing that I really sounded like a smartass
She looked at me almost aggravated at the fact that I just could not stop asking questions, but curiosity was killing this cat.
“Shut up…and let me get there.”
She shook her head, as though she were finding where she had left off from.
“She was a ninja; go figure that right…her village was on the verge of war with a neighboring one. SO…she summoned me for re-enforcements, I mean…if you want to strike from the shadows, why not use the shadow demoness for help.”
I shook my head in agreement, she did have a point.
Shanoria continued with her story. “Well, I decided to help…that was about the time I got the idea that if I fought for good again, I could return.”
My brow rose when I heard the last bit “Return?” I questioned.
“You’ll get that story another day Mira…let me finish.”
“K”
“Well, I helped her win and her village was saved, she became a hero.” She turned her head away as a smile crept across her face revealing her fangs.
“That was the best feeling. I had been a while since I had done something for someone that didn’t involve death and destruction.”
I looked at her, did I hear that right? “Sha… that did involve death and destruction.”
“Yea…but it wasn’t, you know, the usual.”
“Riiiight.”
She just looked at me with a winning grin on her face. “I really enjoyed working with her…so much, that I stuck around.”
So, she willingly stuck around, this was getting interesting.
She continued, “I helped her on a lot more missions, she and I had become close.” “We were unstoppable; she was making me feel worth again. I, for once, in thousands of years, did not feel evil inside.”
Not saying a word, my mouth remained glued shut as she finished her story.
“Then, out of no where, the village was attacked by a horde of demon.” “We, of course, sprung into action, saving the day; but it was the monster behind the attack that bothered me more.” “I felt that there was something horribly wrong with the whole attack.”
I sat there as my face asked the question that my mouth wanted to ask.
“Hell finally decided to come for me and…take Nivea’s soul.” She said, turning her head away from me trying to hide her hurt.
“They sent their demon hunter, or should I say…Rogue…Demon hunter.”
“I went rogue.” She continued “I turned…good…and hell wasn’t having their shadow queen swapping back into the likes of the light.” Brushing a hand through her dark hair she turned to face me.
“Their hunters have the ability to reverse possession.” “After the fight with the horde when she and I least expected, he drug me out of her.”
Disbelief started setting in again, Shanoria was strong, and this…hunter…must’ve been a hell of a lot stronger.
“When he snatched me…he murdered her, right on the spot.” “This happened 400 years after I inhabited her.”
“What?” Words shot out “400 years later, how…how can that be.”
“Her invincibility granted her regeneration also…which in return, gave her immortality.”
Immortality, I thought, that’s a death sentence within its self. “Then how did he kill her?”
She looked at me, this time not hiding the hurt. “He took her soul.”
“What?”
“He took her soul Mira, straight to hell.”
Fear gripped me, I wondered, would this happen to me. I did summon her, am I destined to go to hell also? Looking at Shanoria I thought that was definitely the next question that I was going to ask. I just didn’t know how to say…what was on my mind, guess I should have read the fine print.
“From there I was banished to the lowest bowels of hell, never to see light again, but instead I fought my way back out.” “When I reached the top that was about the time you summoned me.” She smiled, “And then, I truly vowed to fight all that was evil.”
Laughing hesitantly, the only word that could even leak out was “Wow”
“Yea…I blame myself for Nivea…If I would have left after the first charge…”
“She would of went to hell sooner…she, summoned you. In a way, you sticking around gave her more time.”
Shanoria looked at me and I returned the glare. I wanted to ask her so many more questions, mainly about where my soul was going now…and also, if I would ever run into this Rogue Demon Hunter…but, I felt that Nivea’ was enough.
“Have a good day Mira…hopefully you are a little more content.”
“Yes…I am.”
"The Hunter"
After the last conversation I hadn’t asked Shanoria much of anything, maybe it was the idea that maybe my questions had been answered. That, I knew was a lie, the reality was, I had a question to ask, I just had no clue as to how I would ask it. Making Sha worry about me wasn’t in my agenda, but then again, she may have already been in that area of emotion, without me even having to get her there. Maybe she already worried; maybe she was trying to come up with a way to protect me, just in case. Maybe she was thinking of a way to save a soul this time, since the last time she was unsuccessful. Thinking, and thinking, that’s all I could do as I sat at the edge of the bed, my legs crossed sitting in the lotus style and my back straightened in perfect posture as the back of my hands lay gently on my knees, palms facing up. My eyes closed, I was purging all doubt that was in my mind, unfortunately, I wasn’t doing too good of a job at it, as more questions vanished, more appeared. Meditation, something I hadn’t done in a while, emotionally, it surely had caught up with me; I didn’t see a better time to do it than now. Something was about to go down, and I had to be prepared. Then again, maybe I was looking too far into the future, technically, my future, hadn’t been written yet.
“You’re thinking too much Mira.” Shanoria’s voice broke the silence; I couldn’t really say that she was interrupting my meditation, because with the cyclone of queries and doubt swirling around my mind, meditation was more like board up the windows and find cover.
“Is that bothering you?” I asked as I sealed my eyes tighter together.
“It’s not that it’s bothering me” she voiced in a soothing manner as though she weren’t trying to break what concentration I did have left.
“Then what is it?” calmly I asked.
“It’s just…Mira, if you have something to ask me, you should just ask it, you shouldn’t burden yourself with any type of unnecessary enquire.”
I just sat there, quiet, my mind still circling the thoughts, the doubts, the questions. I still didn’t know how to approach her with the question. Yea, it should have been easier than what I was making it. But, how do you ask someone about a demon that is stronger than them, without tearing a chunk out of their pride.
“Just spit it out Mira, I’m asking you the question this time.” “What are you pondering, what has you so distant from me?” Concern in her voice, she asked these questions, obviously, she wanted to know.
“It’s nothing Shanoria.” I answered with a pause in my voice, hoping that maybe she would astray from her ideas, but…
“You’re lying to me Mira.” She calmly stated.
“I-“I sighed; she caught me…red handed.
How was I going to go about this, she had me backed into a corner, it was either ask the damned question, or she wouldn’t let me get any rest. I thought of ways to word the question, how would I go about it…sitting there in total quiet, she waited for me to retort, and I waited until the perfect epiphany hit me. Is this rogue hunter coming after us? That was one way I could spit the question out, quick and to the point, it didn’t challenge her pride, yea…I’ll just go that route.
Sighing, I let the question go “Is, is the demon hunter coming after us?”
My question answered with nothing, the quiet just lingered there, like the darkness I saw as I sat there meditating. Was she going to answer, or just leave me hanging?
She laughed “Is that all you wanted to know Mira, is that what has had you perplexed these last couple of days, The Rogue Demon Hunter?”
“Well, yea…this is my soul we’re talking about.” Sounding selfish I tried to find the words to resubmit the statement in a less egotistical manner.
“Mira, your soul is safe…I would die before I let anything happen to you.”
Feeling not the least bit reassured but caught off guard by with her words; I asked the next question that hit me. “If you die, don’t I…die?”
“Not if I leave you” She answered.
“So…there’s nothing that I have to worry about.” I asked, knowing I had everything to worry about, her record with this demon was zero to one, there was no way she could protect me, and what did she mean by leaving me? Hopefully she wasn't just talking about running away and leaving me to fend for myself...naw, not Sha, she wouldn't do that.
“No Mira, nothing at all, he is not coming after us, and if he does…I will protect you, with my all.”
Her answer didn't ease me, in the least bit, it actually made me worry more; nothing to worry about, he wasn’t coming, I repeated to myself. That didn’t sit well with me, it just didn’t seem…right.
