Hard Lessons
The sun was shining and the birds were singing, all around it was a gorgeous day. These things however weren't the reasons why Tolliver ventured outside to courtyard. He was angry over getting detention and he needed to blow off some steam and the small redhead sitting on the bench was in the worng place and the wrong time.
She didn't even seem to notice him as moved toward her. He watch her moment, she just sat there...staring off into the the sky, looking past the clouds. The whole time she was humming softly to herself. Tolliver leaned in uncomfortably close "HEY! Whatcha lookin at?"
The girl didn't flinch, she calmly turned to him and quietly said "I am looking for someone...I seem to have lost my friend the lark..."
"Huh.... you mental or something?"
Annabel (according to the name printed on her notebook) did not reply. She simply turned her attention to her lunch on the tray sitting beside her.
Tolliver grew more irritated.
"Hey Four-Eyes! I'm talking to you!!! It's rude to ignore people ya know!"
There was no response from the girl.
"Ah forget you then! You're no fun" he snarled as he snatched the sandwich from her tray, intentionally knocking the rest to the ground.
"...hey..." the girl finally spoke "...that is mine...". She made no attempt to take it back from him.
"Yeah? Well now it's mine! Thanks for the lunch...FREAK!" Tolliver turned and began to make his way back inside, greedily shoving the sandwich into his mouth. He was still in a bad mood...but at least he wasn't hungry.

Francis looked up slowly and deliberately from her seat on the ground under the Wingra Tree. She watched as the new kid, Gulliver she thought his name was, was already making himself into yet another Hannigan Clone. Her jaw flexed as her teeth ground together. She's already heard through the other students about the "Little Mermaid" incident with Jai and Biff and her tolerance for high school was wearing thinner.
She had never been called "four eyes" before, but with the pink hair and goth make-up, "four-eyes" was the least of her problems. And now as Francis saw Annabel, the strange kind of autistic come psychic of St. Joe's, sitting confused and helpless, unable to fight back against the tiger-striped kid she made a decision and Moltar's rules about powers during school hours be damned.
As Annabel looked up at Tolliver mashing the remains of her sandwich into his face Francis began a casual stroll across the coutyard...
"Hey Stripes!" She called out continuing to walk forward, "Tell ya what, why don't you leave Annabel alone and go jerk off to some martial arts videos or sumthin'?"

"STRIPES!!" barked Tolliver as he examined the goth-girl before him. He tried his best to look menacing but on the inside he was beaming, this is exactly what he had been hoping for. "Look girly, I don't think you're anyone to be commenting on my appearance! Have you checked a mirror lately? You look like a dead Fraggle! Why don't you crawl back to your little creep-cave or blood-lair or whatever it is you call your room... wouldn't want ya to get hurt."
Tolliver took a large step towards the girl. He already didn't like her...just the fact that she was taller than him was reason enough. She had guts though. Tolliver looked up into Franky's pale face, somewhere beneath the make-up he thought she might almost be cute, but right now she had made herself a target. The girl however stood her ground, despite his best effort to intimidate her.
"I said get outta here, you're in my way!" Tolliver moved forawrd and shoved Franky aside. He didn't stop to check if she had fallen or not. But instead he tried look calm and cool as he struted boldly across the courtyard toward the Wingra Tree were Francis had been sitting. He wasn't sure but he thought he heard her say something under her breath...

Jaygo hopped down from the steps he had been sitting at and deftly moved to intercept Tolliver. This had gone on long enough, being a bully was one thing, touching my friends is another. " YO, Candy-stripes. I think you should stop for a second and reevaluate your position on the totem pole. you may be Biff's new cronie, but even he has the sense to not pick a fight with the whole school. You have two choisec at this point, and I honestly hope you pick the second one. First choice, you appologize to both the girls, and buy Anna lunch to replace what you ate. OR , oh please choose this one, please.. "
Jaygo removed his blazer, placing it gently on the ground, his tie quickly followed it. " OR, I teach you some manners, and you eat through a tube for the next 2 months. " Jaygo stepped up to the other boy. He didn't look like much, but strange whisps, almost like smoke started to drift off his body, almost like he was smoldering." Your move.. Don't think I can't and won't drop you.. "

Francis smiled a wicked grin that Tolliver did not see. She hadn't fallen and as she turned about to face Tolliver's back as he strode away she began to mutter quick, foreign words. Annabel looked up at Francis with an expression that may have been fear...or surprise, Francis couldn't tell with her....
"Hey Jaygo!" She said, "I think I got this one."
With a sharp snap of her wrist and a motion of her fingertips an arc of blue lightening shot forward, but instead of striking Tolliver as it seems it should, in seconds it had wound its way around him trapping him in a bubble of impenetrable energy. The popping and snapping sounds of the cage were loud in the courtyard, but Tolliver was completely trapped within the confines of the powerful hold spell.
"Well Stripes, " Francis called over, "I think Jaygo mentioned something about an apology?"

The voice boomed out from behind Francis, making her mouth go dry.
"That sounds good to me, Francis. You feel free to apologize whenever you're ready."
Francis turned, slowly, and looked up into the smiling face of Biff Hannigan. The boy stood at least eighteen inches taller than her, his square jaw and bright eyes framed by his unkempt blonde hair. His shoulders were squared, his fists clenched. But still he smiled, chilling her. She couldn't speak. Even Jaygo seemed to shift his priorities, looking between the small striped boy and the blonde behemoth.
Biff chuckled. "You geeks are pretty brave when you operate two-to-one," he said. He looked past her to Tolliver, still hanging suspended by the bright, flashing cage. "Don't worry, Stripes," he continued with a smirk, "these sorts of bullies are really cowards at heart. You stand up to them once, and they'll leave you alone." He bent forward slightly, accentuating his height by towering over Francis. "Isn't that what I always hear you losers say?"
Jaygo sprang forward with a cry. "Francis, down!" Shadows swirled about his fists.
But he had too much ground to cover, and Biff sighed, pantomiming a yawn by waving his hand in front of his mouth. "Wrong answer, Jay."
Hannigan lifted his foot, raw with power, and brought it down hard. Dirt sprayed up as a shockwave spread out from the impact. The wave sent both Francis and Jaygo sprawling. The bright, shocking cage dissapated, and Tolliver landed squarely on his feet, smiling.
Looking down at Francis and Jaygo, Biff smiled again. They scrambled to their feet, but their bravado was diminished. Biff laughed and looked again to Tolliver. "So," he asked the striped boy, his voice jolly with menace, "which one of them started it?"
((Okay, I was just stopping by to remind everyone that bullies aren't so easily stopped, particularly super-powered ones. I hear a lot of people say things like, "oh, yeah, Biff gave me static until I kicked his ass, now he leaves me alone." I love you guys, honestly, but come on. Biff is a senior, an invuln tank (gimped in play, maybe, but not in concept). I just wanted to remind everyone that he is not the easiest ass at SJS to kick. Anyway, bring it!))

Jsygo sighed heavly. it always came to the 'big man on campus thing'. He knew how this worked. Biff was going to start hurting people. definatly not a good day for anyone involved. God I really don't need this today. Jaygo dusts himself off and turns to Biff. " Your not taking this one Biff. your looking for a fight and you've got one, you might be pretty much invurnable, but I'm aiming to test that theory today. Franky you should probably leave, Moltar is bound to be on her way now"
Jaygo puts himself between her and Biff. He leans down and picks up a loose rebar off the ground. He let his power flow freely now, his hands nearly dissapear in a swirling cloud of blackness. he summons his reserves, trying to make his skin as hard as he can get it.
" Ok, Biff, lets rock" Jaygo runs full tilt at Biff.

Francis grimaced.
"Here and now really aren't the best times and places for this Jaygo...*deep breath*...dammit."
She leaned over and took Annabel's arm.
"C'mon Annabel. I don't want to be around for this at all." She glanced over her shoulder, "Let me know when the hormones run out."

Gabe watched. He could see that the smaller guy's flank was open to the striped one, if he attacked. He knew he could take a pounding, as was exemplified by his playtime with the Caliban's of Red River. After a few moments of thinking, he decided to make sure the two fighting stayed as one on one. Stepping up to the area he looked at the two fighting then to the others, and shook his head with a smirk.
"Dude! Anybody tries to jump in on that's gettin' smoked," he said as he laughed, not able to contain the thought of playtime again. "Trust. Any of you dish it, I can take it, and make sure you need to see the tailor before your next class."
