March Break

Post by Feu Blanche »

Feu Blanche wandered the halls in a daze, uncertain of what to do.

Everywhere she turned people where making plans.

Plans for the Dominican Republic, plans for Cancun, plans for Miami. But, more than anything else were plans to go home and spend time with families. This being a school that took in kids with superpowers who literally had no place else to go and gave them control. Control that would them allow them to return home for visits with families that they sorely missed. Families...Friends..something that Feu no longer had.

Looking around, Feu saw that she was in the gym. Squeezing behind the bleachers, she sat down and sobbed quietly, cursing the fates that brought her here.

Are you okay?

Feu jerked her head up, looking around quickly. The gym was still empty. "Who's there?" she asked, panic rising in her chest.

I didn't mean to intrude.

It took Feu a moment to realize that she wasn't hearing anyone speak. The words were just there, in her head. Her panic grew. "Who are you? Where are you?"

I'm Sam. And I'm right here, the voice in her head replied.

This was insane. Had she snapped? Feu drew in a deep breath, then blew out a soft cloud of frigid mist. She watched it swirl away from her, spilling out across the floor of the gym. And in the center of it, the mist revealed the outline of a person.

I'm sorry I scared you, the voice said sadly. The figure in the mist turned and began to walk away.

Feu blinked. "No, wait," she said, and the figure turned back to face her. "Who are you? Why can't I see you?"

There wasn't really a laugh, just a feeling of amusement in her mind. I already said. I'm Sam. Sam Stinebrenner, the voice replied. And it's a long story.

"Well," Feu said, breathing out another cloud of mist, "as it turns out, I have the time."

OK. Let me get a bit closer and I will tell you all about Sam Stinebrenner.

As the ghostly figure glided towards her, Feu did a quick mental check.

Am I insane? Do insane people know they are insane or do they think they are normal. Oh well, as long as I don't start arguing with myself or trying to eat the Chef's Surprise in the caf, I should be fine.

Feu watched as the ghostly figure settled in front of her.

Like I said, I am Sam Stinebrenner, and the story starts...

Feu noticed that whenever Sam would move out of the mist, he would disappear. Concentrating a bit she cooled the air around her, causing a light fog to appear in the area.

"Is this too cold for you? I would like to be able to see you a bit better."

Sam pauses while sitting down and appears to think a bit.

No, if we stayed like this for most of the day, I might have to go get a jacket or something, but I am fine like this for now.

What would you like to know first??

"Well, who are you?"

Sam Stinebrenner, a normal 17 year-old guy.

Feu looks at Sam with a look of scepticism on her face. "Normal. Riiiight."

OK, normalish. Anyways, I have been like this since I was born. It really freaked out the obstetrician when mom started pushing. Normally you see a tuft of hair on the head of the baby when it comes out. They saw nothing with me. Just the amniotic fluid dripping off of, well, nothing as far as they knew. But they could see something getting pushed out, so they did what they had to do. One of the nurses grabbed some disinfectant powder and dusted it over me so they could see me after the birth.

Feu leaned forward, a look of amazement on her face, her own troubles temporarily forgotten.
