It was any other day...well...any other day THESE days...
Jessica got off her cot in the bunker, grabbing a pile of clothes she had managed to get from her room and went to the showers.
She saw a few friends already there. It was hard, knowing who was missing...she looked around, trying to find a stall away from the others, one that would grant her complete privacy. She slipped in, closing the curtain behind her. Taking off her shirt, she stared intently at the scars on her arms, her legs...closing her eyes, she ran her hand over them, feeling the raised skin...
After a nice, long shower and a meal in the chow hall, Jessica donned her new battle gear and was on her way out of the bunker. The comm was busy with activity; students calling for help because they found another friend; students arguing about the usual "hawks versus doves" topics...
Kat flew past in the hall, intent on getting to wherever she was going very quickly. Jessica smiled, she couldn't resist. She held down a button on the comm.
"I see you, Kat."
Kat threw her legs in front of her, cartoon style, stopping her momentum. She turned and looked, smiling. Jessica ran up to her friend.
"Hey...glad to see you're doing better."
"Yeah...I am...how are you doing?"
Jessica shrugged, smiling. "I'm doing ok..." She tried sticking her hands in her pockets...realizing she hand none, she simply crossed her arms.
Kat looked her in the eyes, a concerned look on her face. "Well...ok. Oh, hey..." Kat reached into her gymbag and pulled out a folded piece of paper. "I set up an appointment with Dr. Conrad. It's in three hours."
Jessica took the piece of paper and unfolded it, shocked. There, in neat handwritting, was the date today and a time. She shook her head. "But...I..." Jessica frowned. "Why didn't you make sure I wasn't busy first?"
Kat looked around the hall. "Does it look like we're going to class anytime soon? C'mon...I'll go with you if you want."
Jessica huffed, putting the piece of paper in one of the pouches on her belt. "You're darn right you're coming. You promised."
Kat giggled, nodding. "Allright then..."
Jessica looked at a clock hanging on the wall. "Well...I'm gonna go run some errands then. I'm taking my security test for 34 today, and I need to tie up some loose ends. I should have time, right?"
Kat nodded. "I'll call you on the comm when it's time to meet up."
"Yeah...ok...thanks."
Jessica took off past Kat, heading for the transporter bays. Without telling me...no, I can't be mad...she really cares...uggh...I can't believe I'm going to do this for her... Jessica shook her head, biting her lip. She moved her hand up to her arm, pressing lightly on a spot that, underneath the battle suit she wore, was protected still with a large band-aid. Pain flared up. She shook her head, input the coordinates to the machine, and was gone in a flash of light.
