Star Flash's First Victory in Paragon

Post by Star Flash »

Matt shook his head as he gave a small smile, 'Wow, we did it!'

He looked around at his fellow students who'd come along on this mission and who would believe it when they were forced to come face to face with the Clockwork King! All that mattered to Matt right now is that he had shown Synapse that he could be relied on and that his training wasn't being wasted. Looking once again Matt still couldn't help but smile, but felt it diminish a bit when he looked at Vigilance. Just before this whole situation happened, Matt got into a minor fight with her over falling asleep at the movies in a group outing. 'What was that all about...'

As the student all went their seperate ways, Matt caught up to Vigilance to figure out just what she was so upset about. After a very lengthy dispute over Matt's overachieving ways in class, it finally hit Matt like a brick. 'I like you more then a friendship...'

Matt stuttered at first trying to regain his composure but it wasn't gonna happen. The same girl that he had nearly killed upon arrival to the school, actually liked him. For the rest of the conversation, the two of them tried to explain themselves, but Matt only found himself running into roadblocks at every turn as he kept running into his past. Finally growing frustrated with himself Matt just quietly said, "Maybe someday I can explain it..."

Vigilance seemed fine with that but it was very clear to Matt that he owed her a meal and a movie still. As Matt watched her speed off into the distance, Matt slumped down on the little bench behind the Hospital in Skyway City. The same spot that they had been at for almost an hour bickering and trying to figure each other out. Looking at the sky, Matt saw that Dusk was already settling in... "What a day..."

"I'll say kid, you did great out there!" A voice replied.

Matt didn't even need to turn to know it was Synapse. "You knew that we'd come up against the Clockwork King didn't you?"

"I figured you would, but then agian he always seems to crawl back up to his full power. Those little minions of his always seem to pluck him right out of our grasp everytime, but I wouldn't worry about it kid. Heroes all over Paragon work to keep him away from becoming a full force to be dealt with." Syanpse commented as he came to face Matt face to face. "So this is your hero get up eh? What did you call yourself again?"

"Star Flash." Matt replied as he looked at his hero uniform.

"Its catchy but why Star Flash?" Synapse asked as he took a seat beside Matt.

"Well, I control light. Stars are basically giant lightbulbs in the sky and well, everytime I teleport, there's a bright flash of light. It made sense at the time." Matt explained while staring at the ground.

Synapse cracked a smile, "Ahh kid you still have a lot to learn. When a reporter asks you why your who you are, and what your name is, your gonna have to come up with something more flashy then something you threw together on whim. Remember your a hero now, you gotta have that heroic quality in the eyes of Paragon."

"I'll work on it..." Matt muttered.

"Alright kid, what's bugging ya?" Synapse finally said. He could see that his words weren't helping Matt out of his current slump.

Matt let out a sigh, "Ya know, I just went up against a horde of mechanical things, some huge giant one, and then the leader of these things and you'd think I'd feel great. My classmates and I just decimated a whole criminal element in the city and yet I can't even fit into this world..."

"What do you mean kid, you did great out there and things with the school? Well that takes time, you can't make things happen as easily as teleporting here and there." Synapse began but was interrupted.

"Its not that, things at the school are fine. I'm all caught up in my work, hell I'm even ahead, but this one girl seems to think that I'm too focused on it and-"

"Ahh so that's the deal." Synapse replied with a smile.

"What?" Matt asked confused.

"You got girl problems." Syanpse said with a small chuckle, "Ahh kid how I wish I was you at times."

"Well I wouldn't say problems..." Matt muttered.

"Come on kid, just tell her how you feel. Better to know, then never know."

"I did that already, actually we both did." Matt explained still staring at the ground.

"Then what's the problem kid?" Synapse asked confused, "If you both like each other things should be fine and dandy."

"The problem is, she wanted to know why I'm so worried about talking about my past, and I can't even begin to explain to her anything about it because I promised you." Matt finally blurted out in frustration.

Synapse gave a small sigh, "Ahh, I see. Well kid, I can tell you a few things. The first one is, you tell everyone where you and Roxy are from, the information falls into the wrong hands and well, the men who want you decide to start invading this world. Not a good option. Second one is, you tell no one, take your secret to your grave but probably live a very hard life as you have to constantly find ways to avoid conversation about your past. Not a good option either, but the safest. The last one I have for you is hardest though so you'll have to decide on it yourself."

Matt gave a small nod.

"You tell her all about your past, explain it all in detail, just as you did to me. However, its not that simple. You now burden her with the same weight as you carry. She will now be just as much of a target as you or Roxy are, and if word gets out that any of you know something, there's a very strong chance someone will come looking for any of you." Synapse explained but saw that Matt was still unsure, "Kid, I can't tell you what to do. This is your life now."

Synapse stood up and gesture all around, "This is now your home, not there. You left there because of what it was for the search of a better life. This is that better life. Sure you and Roxy can fight by yourselves against anything that might come after you kids now, but wouldn't you like it better if there was more then just me standing in your corner?"

Matt let out a small sigh and nodded, "But its like you said, then I'll be endangering anyone else who knows."

"Most likely, but its often easier to face a problem together then alone. I'll leave that for you to decide, I've got to head out." Synapse said in conclusion as he began to head down towards the street.

"Hey, what about me?" Matt asked standing up.

"Get some rest kid, take the night off. You did your training already!" Synapse replied as he sped off into the distance.

Matt looked up into the night sky and gave a small sigh, 'Great... More things to think about...'
