Runaway (Comments Welcome)

((OUT OF CONTINUITY!!!))

((This story is a crossover with just about every character I have in CoH, or at least, the more prominent ones. I'll define the character, Glowing Vigilance, in this thread as an on going until I run out of ideas or I just get bored.))

The bucket of mustard fell on Summer's head. She pulled it of her head and threw it across the bathroom at the wall.

"What? Didn't see that comin' loser!" Biff said laughing, "Couldn't predic yourself out of a wet paper bag!"

Summer looked over her shoulder and kicked the door with the back of her heel sending it flying and whacking Biff in the head. She ignored his scream for help and started washing her face and hair of the yellow substance that smelled like a dried out turd. She looked herself in the mirror to see what she missed and got a big steaming pile of regret instead. Summer looked horrible, her eyes had bags and her demeanor was sallow.

"You look horrible Summer." She told herself, "I've seen Arachnos recruits look better after some experiments than you."

"Summer Vigil, report to the office please." Came Gemini on the intercom.

"What else can go wrong today." Summer muttered washing her face again before grabbing some towels.

She pushed the door open drying her face and felt herself go face forward anf face plant to the cobble stone floor. She closed her eyes and felt her nose warming up with blood. Biff howled in laughter, she could hear him jumping up in down at his next prank.

"Hahaha! You freshmen are so EASY! Loser!" Biff replied.

Summer stood up, her head was spinning and she was seeing white still. Her nose was bleeding into the towels thankfully. Her look was worse, it'd gone from sallow to white as the blood leaked out. She plugged it with the towel and shook her head to catch her balance.

"Screw it..." She muttered.

"Summer Vigil to the front office immediately...." Gemini said coming over the intercom again, she repeated her message but Summer ignored her out right.

She went to her room, ripped open her closet, grabbed a white dress shirt she had to wear under the coat and threw it into a duffle bag. She grabbed her comm and ripped it off her jacket and smashing it against the wall.

"I refuse to let people push me around that have no clue what will happen to them after they leave this place." Summer thought, "And I don't care."

She paused for a moment as the promise came back to her, her eyes narrowed as she felt the guilt of leaving that here at the school.

"They don't want to be helped so I quit." Summer thought internally, "I didn't fail, I just realized there was no chance."

Summer dead bolted the door, locked the top lock and put a chair up against the door for good measure. She threw the duffel bag around her shoulder, opened her window, cut the screen out and started tying bed sheets together. The bundle was tied to the bed in a knot that would release with three yanks. She tossed it out the window and went out. She yanked it once, twice and it fell down to the ground next to her. She folded it under her arm, stuffed it in the duffel bag and started walking.

"It'll take them the rest of today and tomorrow to figure out I'm gone and even then it'll be another day before they check my room. Then they'll debate to see if I was kidnapped or I left. Home free, away from Biff and the rest of those awful people who see it best to tease and ruin people's days to better their own." Summer thought as the wind blew.

"Hello!"

Her stomach sank, "Damned X-Factor." She cursed under her breath as she turned around. A little girl, dressed in St. Joseph's garb wearing a japanese beany to give off the impression that she had rabbit ears, smiled up at her. She was asian by decent, her black hair was short in the back and long in the front with a districtive strand running in between her eyes.

"Hi." Summer said uncomfortably.

"Whatcha doin'?" She asked.

"Going on a field trip." Summer lied.

"Cool! Where to?" the girl questioned.

Summer looked at the ground, "Kings... yeah Kings Row to see my folks for a while. They wanted me to visit."

She looked at Summer big eyes, "Can i come with you please!!!" She said grabbing ahold of Summer's leg.

"Gah! No! It's private, and you'll be bored out of your little skull." Summer groaned.

"Awe... no one wants to take me with them." She said looking down at the dirt, "I just want to hang out with someone since my friends left."

Summer knelt down and lifted the little girls chin up, "What happened to your friends?" She asked.

The little girl's sorrow was heartwrenching, "They left because their powers went away and didn't need to stay no more. I used to hang out with them every day." She said smiling, remembering the events.

Summer bit her lower lip, this was stupid but she couldn't help herself, she was human after all, "Alright, I guess you can come but you can't tell anyone, so get some stuff cause this will be a long trip. No candy, just clothes and meet me back here, Okay?"

The little girl jumped twenty feet in the air in a yell of joy, Summer took a step back, "Holy crap!"

"I'm Annabell, but everyone calls me Rabbit!" She said jumping up and down.

"Or super ball..." Summer muttered, "Okay, go get your stuff and don't tell anyone, okay?"

"Okay!" She said and bounced away.

Summer facepalmed and rubbed the bridge of her nose. She set her duffle bag down and sat in the grass waiting for Annabell. She heard the laughter a mile away. Annabell was bouncing with her book bag on her back. It was yellow with Hello kitty on the front.

"I'm back!" said the hyper active little girl, "Oh and you never told me your name!"

"Summer." Summer replied.

Annabell threw her hands up and jumpped up on Summer's shoulders. Summer grunted at the new found weight and they both nearly fell over.

"Oh no, off. You can bounce like a ping pong ball, so I'm not carrying you." Summer warned.

"I know but I get hungry and then I just can't do it anymore. Hurt myself the first time, my dad sent me to this school because of it." Anna said.

Summer groaned, "Fine but only for a little while."

----------

The two of them walked for miles with Anna pointing out things and asking Summer questions that a normal 8 year old would ask. "Where does spit come from?", "Why are boys scared of us?", "What're boobs?", "Why's your hair white?", "What's 9 times 33?". Summer didn't mind as much as she originally thought she would, but still enough to be annoyed to an extent.

"Why do boys think they can't cry?" Anna asked.

"Because they think their full of hard bits." Summer answered.

"Hard bits?" Anna asked.

"Yeah, they think that because their boys, they need to be strong in front of girls. I'm really not sure what the word is but men like to think their that all the time." Summer continued.

"Oh..." Anna said looking up at the sky.

"Alright, off I'm getting really tired carrying you." Summer answered.

Anna bounced off her shoulders and started walking. Summer collapsed on a bench and sat back. Anna bounced right next to her and sat down. She looked at Summer and tried mocking her position as best she could. Summer sat there and enjoyed the moment, Anna wasn't far behind. The first leg of their little runaway adventure had started and was far from over.

The giant highway sign over their heads gave Summer a sign of relief. Kings Row, next exit. Anna looked up and nearly fell over as she tilited her head. Summer grabbed her hand before she could fall and righted her again.

"Easy shorty. I don't need you flying off into the sun set cause you bounced on your kester." Summer smiled.

----------

The place was run down, smelly and dismal. If this was Kings Row, it certainly wasn't that kingsly. Anna and Summer walked down the uneven side walk with Anna clutching Summer's skirt at the hem. She put her hand down to comfort her.

"This place is scary." Anna replied.

"This place looks like lower Cap Au Diable..." Summer thought, "Yeah no doubt."

"I want my damn money ya idjit!"

The girls looked to the side in the alley. A Guy wearing a skull on the front of his face was pointing a gun at a business man. He was holding the briefcase to his chest and clutching it like it'd save his life.

"NOW!" The skull yelled.

Anna let go of Summer's skirt, grabbed a rock and pitched it at the skull's head, "Leave him alone you big meany head!"

The skull felt the side of his head with one hand while keeping the gun pointed at the businessman. She back handed the business man with the butt of the gun and pointed it Anna. Summer quickly cut in and stood between the gun and Anna.

"Leave the man alone you piece of scum." Summer ordered.

"Why?" The skull asked, "You going to come at me and hurt me?" He laughed.

"Anna, close your eyes." Summer said looking behind her.

"INCOMING!"

The yell took both of them by surprise. Someone pivoted off the side of the roof of the alley and came flying downward towards the alley floor feet first. They crashed into the skull knocking the gun out of his hand and crushing him to the ground. They flipped off him and landed behind him. He groaned searched for his gun and grabbed a broken bottle. The skull got up, holding the broken bottle in front of him.

Summer finally got a good look at what was a woman and something else. She had ears on the top of her head shaped like a cat. She was wearing black and blue armor with a long flared skirt covering her legs. She opened her hands and crouched down. The skull charged thrusting the bottle at her. She caught it in the chest and let it break. The skull looked up, it was easy to tell he just got that oh crap look on his face. The catwoman balled her fist and sent a punch to his jaw that kncoked him into the side of the building and flattened him all in one blow. She lifted her wrist to her mouth.

"Reaia to Kings Row central, I had an armed robbery, I have the suspect in custody and three witnesses to testify. He's a member of the skulls. Can you pick us up, we're on Bronx, west of 4th."

Her wrist talked back to her, "Roger that, we'll be there in three."

"Can any of you heal?" Reaia asked looking down at the business man.

Summer looked side to side and finally nodded, Reaia waved her over, "Get this man back to consciousness, I'll get the skull."

Summer placed a hand on the man's bleeding temple, the wound began sealing itself. She could feel his concussion and felt the pieces of skull pulling back to their original places. She heard the wet rap of a fist and looked over her shoulder.

Reaia smacked the skull again, "Up an at 'em junior. I need you to confess to smacking this nice business man over here!" The skull groaned a moment, Reaia kept her hand up ready for another back hand, "Who dare? W-Who thar." He caught a glimpse of Reaia finally, "Bad kitty! Stay away!!!" He screamed out loud.

----------

Reaia, Summer and Anna were sitting on the curb with the Businessman lying down and the skull whimpering as the cop car pulled up. The officer opened the back door, Reaia took the Skull and tossed him in the back, got in and waved for Summer to get in. Anna hopped in as the door shut and sat on Summer's lap as the cop got the unconsciousness business man into the car. Reaia sat back and put her arm around the skull.

"We're going to have a little talk at the station, right?" She asked.

"I want a lawyer." He said meekly.

"People in hell want ice water, but I doubt they'll be getting it any time soon." Reaia answered.

Anna giggled at the comment, "Catlady is funny, don't you think Summer?" She asked.

Summer had a small grin on her face from this woman's actions, "Yeah."

"I'm a riot once you get to know me, and you..." She said poking the skull on the chest, "Are going to get to know me very well."

The skull quivered in fear for the rest of the ride with Summer and Anna supressing giggles.

----------

The station stood like a monolith to the rest of Kings Row. They parked the cruiser in the underground garage, got out and walked into the entrance. Summer had Anna on her shoulders, Reaia was dragging the skull who'd given up trying to walk after stumbling multiple times and the Police Officer was escorting the business man who'd woken up during the ride and thanked god he still had his briefcase.

The businessman had fiddled with the latches of the case as they walked. They snapped open and he checked inside fumbling through papers. The cocking sound of the gun caused everyone to freeze. Reaia let go of the skull like dead weight, Summer and Anna froze because the businessman was pointing the gun at them. The cop put his hand on his weapon.

"Sir, you're not going to do that." The cop reasoned.

"Yes I will." He stammered, "I'll do it! I won't get caught by some freak like this woman right here."

"That was uncalled for." Reaia said raising an eyebrow.

He pointed the gun at Reaia and fired. Blood splattered on the pavement, Anna screamed out loud. The gun moved and shot the cop, his head flew back and he hit the ground. Summer had frozen solid in fear. The businessman reached down and pilfered the cop's body taking his keys.

"Move!" He yelled.

----------

Reaia clawed the ground and pulled herself up, "Ow!" She said rubbing the forehead. "Ass shot me in the face." She finished wiping the dry blood off her forehead and nose.

She looked over and caught a glimpse of the cop lying on the ground. Reaia shook her head and got up. She heard the getaway car peel out of the garage, her sens went to alert in a heart beat.

"Reaia in pursuit of a stolen police vehicle! One officer down! I repeat officer down in the underground Garage of Po,ice Plaza, send assistance immediately. Reaia out!" She yelled and started running.

She was breathing fire in and out as her heart kicked into overdrive and dumped the adrenalin into her system. Her eyes burned blue and she leapt over car and kicked off pillars trying to keep up with the cruiser as it sped out of the garage.

The cop car exploded out of the exit, close behind Reaia was running right behind it. The car skidded around the corner and finally got enough room to let the suped up cop engine roar. Reaia stopped, she'd lost the battle now.

"I lost them dammit!" Reaia yelled.

She grabbed her communicator, "Any heroes in the Kings Row area, keep a look out for a black and white police car, going south on Pike. There's a cop killer with two hostages. Two girls, one 13 and one 8 years old. Use extreme caution to not harm the girls but extreme predjudice against that son of a bitch!"

"Let's see that bastard try to get away from every hero in a 5 mile radius." She muttered.

----------

"Dammit! How is that woman still alive!" The man screamed aloud as he heard the broadcasts.

Anna was hugging Summer who was regretting this decesion right now. She'd ruined this little girls life and could probably get her killed if this didn't work out right. Summer clutched Anna and held her tight.

"We'll be fine." She said to her.

"I'll kill you both here if you don't shut up!" He yelled back.

They started slowing down and driving slower to keep off suspicsion. The man was sweating bullets as he kept the car steady through the traffic. He muttered uder his breath about getting back to the Isles, Anna might not have known but Summer knew full well.

"Crey or Arachnos?" Summer asked.

The man looked back, Summer was glaring at him, her eyebrows lowered giving her a menancing apperance, "Crey or Arachnos?"

"None of yoru damned business." He snapped back.

"Oh that's where you're wrong. Crey... or... Arachnos?" Summer repeated.

"SHUT UP!" he yelled pointing the gun at her through the grate.

"You have to be Crey, only an idiot would be dumb enough to shoot a cop and a hero and think he'll be safe in the Isles." Summer started, "You're lucky if the countess will acknowlege you exist before killing you with a swift move of her hand."

The car screeched back on the road as he realized her was going over the line, "Shut up or I'll shoot."

"Not if you want to keep the car on the road." Summer answered, "You let me and this girl go, right here and right now, I'll tell you were you can go to get safe passage to the Rogue Isles and not get killed trying."

"Why should I trust you? Huh? What makes you so damned special?" He questioned.

"I'm the daughter of a high ranking official in the Rogue Islands. You want to live, you take my word or you get killed in a bloody crossfire with the cops. In the crossfire scenario, you'll die from a bullet wound to the shoulder. You'll bleed out and die horribly, there will be no one to attend your funeral."

He yanked the car off on the first exit ramp and pulled onto the side and stopped, "Alright, you made your point, where."

"There's a place in Independence Port where Arachnos has an operation. It's a cover up, but if you say Gerald is Here, they'll let you in. You barter your way off the main land and rot in the isles for the rest of your life. Your call. Now open the door."

The man got out of the car and opened the door, "If you seem me again, you'll be dead." He threatened.

"Likewise." Summer replied.

Anna looked up at Summer who put her hand on Anna's back. The cop car pulled away with the guy driving. Summer looked down at Anna.

"You got enough money to make a phone call?" Summer asked.

Anna looked at her, heartbroken, "How'd you know all that bad stuff."

"I didn't." Summer smiled, "I just pulled off a very big lie. Now isn't the time though, we need to get this bad man arrested."

Anna brightened up, "You're so smart Summer. I wish I could be like you!" She beamed.

Summer and Anna made their way to a pay phone, Anna dialed 911, "Hello lady!" She said, she handed Summer the phone, "What's your emergency?"

"We're the two hostages of the cop killer. We got out and we know where he's going. He'll be in Indy Port in less than thirty minutes trying to get to a boat to the Rogue Isles. Send officers there immedately."

Summer hung up the phone, "I'm hungry." Anna replied, "Let's get something to eat then."
