Explosions rocked the library again. dust and plaster fell about the room, cowering the huddled students. Outside the world as they knew it was ending. Several of the more bold students would lift their heads long enough to glance out of a window. Rikti soldiers were everywhere, swarming the grounds blasting everything in sight. Heros were there also, flying in and out using their various abilities to try to push the invaders back.
In one corner 3 students were looking out of a hole blown on the wall. Jeremy ducked as rocks pelted the hole again, looking back at his two friends with a smile. Luke Chambers, known to some as Portals, and Kevin Chin, Sparks, laughed hesitantly. Neither wanting to spoil the fun, but both were terrified at the sights around them. Another explosion rocks the building prompting Jeremy to peek outside again. The building directly across the courtyard was ablaze, fire pouring out every window. "Dude, they torched Conner Hall." proclaims Jeremy, pointing out towards the fire. Conner Hall was one of two building that made up the original Saint Joseph School, historical buildings now reduced to burning rubble. Screams could be heard faintly beneath the sounds of battle.
"Jeremy, you and your friends get away from there right now." Dr Thomas shouts, as another blast shakes the room. Dr Thomas, the school Physics teacher was one of the few faculty left. Most having left to help with the seemingly unstoppable invasion. The three errent boys moved from the hole, just as fresh screams, this time much louder. Looking to the windows, Dr. Thomas could see several students, most of them younger than his current group, running through the courtyard. Velocity was there to cut off the new wave of Rikti, that were pursuing the terrified children. Like a valkyrie of old she was there, dodging here, striking there, holding off an uncountable number alone, buying precious time with her life. "Stay here, I'm going to get them." Thomas explains as he rushes out of the doors, leaving all the students stunned, Dr. Thomas wasn't a hero, he was squeamish around blood.
"We have to go help!" exclaims Jeremy as he turns to his two friends. " Doc Thomas can't possibly help them alone.. we have to go." he rushes out of the hole in the wall, followed closely by Luke and Kevin. The heat from the fires hit them instantly, slowing there charge. " Sparks see if you can't even things up a bit for the cape." Jeremy points to Velocity. " Luke grab those students, and get them inside." Jeremy flies off, hooting wildly at the chance to finally soar free. 'Portals' as his name implies teleports several students to the relative safety of the library. 'Sparks' shrugs off his school jacket and stretches a bit. allowing the electrical currents build, his arms are quickly covered in a bluish glow, his hair standing on end. His first blast stalls the combat for a second as the Rikti reevaluates the situation, allowing him to pick off several of the more dangerous looking ones with precision blasts. Velocity, thankful for the brief respite, re enters the melee anew, determined not to allow the invaders another inch of ground.
Dr Thomas, meanwhile had gathered the remaining students and were herding them away from the growing battle. Several blasts from the left caught his attention as another group of Rikti were moving into the courtyard, threatening to cut them off. Blaster shots filled the air, as they mercilessly opened fire on the students. several were cut down in the first volley. The others dropped to the ground and huddled, waiting for their death sentence. A mad cackle filled the air, followed by explosions. Jeremy was diving at the Rikti, flinging balls of pure energy into them. One Rikti, larger than the rest stood up and shouldered a mean looking tube, aiming it at Jeremy. only to have it disappear from his hands. " I got you covered Wingman". Luke yells, tossing the alien weapon to the ground. Furious the Rikti pulls out a pistol and fires wildly as Luke, who smiles. With a snap of his fingers the alien is teleported from his current location to one half a mile off the ground. Jeremy flies by, laughing, and blasts several rikti off their feet. " Doc Thomas, get them to safety. we'll cover you." Thomas, never one to argue a good point, grabs the remaining students and hustles them away, taking a quick look back at the forms still lying on the ground.
Slowly, the rikti advance, weary of the new foe. Velocity and Sparks finish up the last of the first group and turn to help Wingman . Portals, watching for new threats, sees several rikti, disappear into the last building in toe courtyard. muffled blasts could be heard inside, screams again fill the air. A lone girl appears, pushed out of the doors by an explosion. He moves to help her, only to be pinned down by another wave of rikti. their fire disappearing into a portal in front of him. The girl, battered and bleeding slowly gets up, too stunned to run, she can only wander around. "RACHEL!" Jeremy yells, Flying as fast as he can toward the girl. Several rikti begin to fire at him as he flies by, only to be blasted by Sparks. Jeremy had dreamed of this since he first saw her, saving her from mortal danger, being the 'knight in shining armor'. there was no way she wasn't going to the dance with him now. His fly by grab, was fast and flawless, he quickly accelerates up and out, trying desperately to get away from the new wave of rikti. Dr Thomas gently cradled the girl as Jeremy handed her over. " come now son, leave the fighting to the heroes" he said. as he help the door open.
" No can do Doc, we all have to be heroes today. your saving the other kids. I'm helping Velocity. It's my time Doc. time to do what's right. no more boyish tricks.. time for me to be a man, a hero" Jeremy flies off again leaving Dr Thomas to care for Rachel. Jeremy soars above the courtyard, watching the battle below, looking for the right opening. The blast caught him square in the shoulders, his eyes wide with disbelief. Jeremy had just enough time to look back and see the rikti leaning out of a window before he plunged to the ground. His body hitting hard, knocking the wind from him. Slowly he stirs, getting into a sitting position he fires at the window, and smiles, his teeth red. as the explosion blows the rikti to the ground. several more shots came his way, but he couldn't move, couldn't react in time. In his last act of defiance, he built up all of his remaining energy and blew it outward, throwing everyone off their feet
"NNNOOO!" Luke yells, as he stumbles to his feet, all around him bodies litter the ground. He looks over and sees his friend, the only boy to talk to him the whole first week he was here, lying in a growing pool of blood. Velocity walks over and puts her hand on the boys shoulder, she stands with him, knowing words are useless at the moment. Kevin moans off to the side. "Tone that down next time Jeremy I'm not a brickhou..." his words die on his lips as he sees Luke on his knees next to an unmoving Jeremy. He hobbles over, a cut on his thigh slowing him down. "this can't.. no." Tears stream down his cheeks.
Fresh explosions signal the advance of another wave of rikti. the three heroes somber moment is disturbed as aliens pour into the courtyard. " No more! not another foot" Luke cries out, picking up a rikti rifle, he hits the firring stud and releases streams of fire at the new threat " GO FLYERS." Kevin yells as he and Velocity join the fight, three against untold numbers, standing their ground at the spot their friend died.

alrighty.. prologue finished.. thought i'd spend a minute and and remind us of the events that brought us here. so post away. this took a bit longer than i wanted but i'm trying to build the whole story up at the same time. work is gonna postphone the next part for a few days because my schedule got turned arround. so feed on this for a bit
