((OOC - So, I've realized that I don't really have the time to put in to having two alts in SJS. This is going to be Emily's exit thread. It's been a blast, and I look forward to being able to focus more attention on Lucia))

Em sat on her bed, looking across at the other beds in the quad, currently empty of the other girls. "Her girls," as she had come to think of them in the semester she had been at this school. She sighed. She felt bad, really, that she hadn't been around much lately. Between classes and patrolling, she barely seemed to have any time at all. Add to that the time she needed to spend at the hospital, helping the lab technicians to expand her personal metabolic analysis profile, and she was surprised that she had managed to find any time to take her SATs.

She wasn't sure, at first if she was even going to bother. After all, her new abilities were occasionally problematic, even in the specially designed campus of Saint Joseph's. Many schools wouldn't want to deal with a walking electrical problem. Most scientific research groups wouldn't have anything to do with a brilliant teenager who had a tendancy to experiment on herself... Like it or not, Em had come to terms with the fact that her education at St. Joes may very well be the last formal education she'd ever get.

But she'd taken the tests anyways. Her studies at her old school had been intense, and she was qualified to graduate this summer. She had talked to Mr. Conrads, and with his blessing, sent out a stack of college applications. Several big names on there, and some that she had never even heard of before. After that, it was only a matter of waiting.

She hadn't needed to wait long. The letters had started trickling in. Every few days, she had treked down to the guidance office, in order to hear the latest news. It was, quite frankly, depressing.

The smaller schools had rejected her out of hand. She wasn't surprised; they wouldn't have the money to spare to have facilities that could handle her. But it was some of the more prominent and well funded schools that were...well, no need to dwell on that.

It wasn't all depressing news, though. Several schools had accepted her, many with full scholarships. Now that it was only a matter of deciding and accepting one--she had hesitated.

She was running out of time to decide, if she still wanted to be able to start in the fall. But she was finding it hard to decide, because no matter where she went, her friends wouldn't be there. The only people who have wanted anything to do with her since the accident would be here at St. Joe's where she was off wherever. And she would miss them.

She rustled through the papers, pulling out the three acceptance letters that she had received. Their logos sprawled across the top of the letterhead; Paragon City University, MIT, and the Paragon Institute of Science and Technology.

Mr. Conrads had reminded her that she needed to make a decision soon. As if she needed the reminder. She threw the letters down on the bed, next to the box where she had been storing everything, and stalked out of the room. She needed to get away from all of this for a few hours. No labs, no homework, no patrols. Just her and the open city...

Paragon City University

M.I.T.

Paragon Institute of Science and Technology

The names drove home like knives into Paula's heart. So, it was coming to an end. She was going to lose her white sister. Em was finally leaving for the life she deserved. Looking around, she knew Em was somewhere around. She just wasn't sure where. Maybe she should wait.

Trying feebly to control herself and be strong, her face contorted in heartache and happiness. Em really did deserve to go to these places. The school, here, was just dragging her down, and she needed to expand and grow. Pally reached down, and picked up the letter, hoping to read what these people wanted to tell Em; but, before she could read it, tears filled her eyes.

Setting the letter back down, Paula went to her bed, and lay down. In no time, the sounds of an occaisional sniff or a sigh could be heard, but there was no hint aside from that, unless someone were to see the girl's face (which was turned toward the wall). Soon she was soundly asleep. This week was filled with too much stress for one girl to handle on her own.

Amy comes walking into the room, talking on her cell phone with her boyfriend Johnny. She is smiling and making that cheesy grin that a girl hopelessly in love would make.

"Johnny, baby, I'll talk to you later. Get back to your homework... I love you too... Bye."

She hangs up the phone, only to see Pally silently resting on the bed. This strikes Amy as peculiar since it was the middle of the day.

"Hey, Paulita, you feeling ok?"

No sound is made, other than a quiet sniffle. Amy frowns and puts her books down on her computer desk. She walk towards their little fridge in the room and notices some papers on Em's bed. She walks over and picks up the papers to skim over them.

"Em's leaving us? Oh god, Paulita... no wonder you're... god..."

Amy puts the letters back down on the mattress and walks over to Pally. She crawls onto the bed, putting her back to the wall and holding Pally sympathetically. The two girls lay quietly in the room, one in silent comfort, the other in silent heartbreak.

After a bit, Pally's breathe, reflected back to her from being held, woke her. The latin teen lay there, silent, holding onto the comforting arms of a friend, who was there in her hour of need. Had it not been Amy, Pally might have been utterly humiliated. This was her private side. The side that nobody, but her closest friends got to see. The side that had feelings, and was an actual girl. Not, the mindless brute, who thugged her way around campus, and did nice stuff to keep a good image.

Turning over, she snuggled back, and pulled Amy's protective arms closer around her, as if they may actually deflect the bad things in life. Right now, she felt helpless, and unable to do anything of value. She felt weak and insecure.

"Amy," she asked. "What do we do, now?

Slowly, she slid from her friend's comforting grasp, and made her way toward Em's bed, and her open and available things. Looking in a box with similar papers to what was already out on the bed, she discovered the letter that sat unfinished. It was doubtless an acceptance of a scholarship.
Doctor Erin Jackson
Dean of Student Admissions
Mass. Institute of Technology

Dear Dr. Jackson,

I am writing to thank you for your offer of admission to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The reputation of your school is, as you know, unparalled; I am honored to be considered for enrollment--
"She deserves ta go," Pally nodded. "I feel so bad for wanting ta keep her here. I am so going ta miss her, 'mija."

The emotions welled up, almost literally shaking Pally's body, as her crying renewed.

Em lay on the cement base of the statue in Prometheus Park, her socks and shoes in a pile beside her, bare feet dipping into the water. This was the place she always retreated to, when she needed to think. Pally had been concerned at first, with so many petty gangsters using that park for dealing and other unsavory crimes, but those days were past. The Hellions had learned quite some time ago that Em was tough prey. They now ignored her and focused on easier targets.

She had never expected to get into any college, let alone three of them. Instead of lazing her way through another year of high school, dodging the penguin patrol and avoiding detention, she actually had to decide where she was going to spend the next four years of her life.

How was she going to tell the girls? She had been avoiding trying to think about that, honestly. She didn't want to leave them.

She pushed that thought out of her mind, willing her mind to blank. She looked up at the clear blue sky, and sighed contentedly at the warmth of the sun on her face. She frowned. The letters! She had left them out on the bed, forgetting that Pally would probably get back to the Quad before she did.

Don't worry. She'd never go snooping through your stuff...would she?

Em thought back to the half-written letter to the Admissions Department at MIT. She was going to turn down their offer, but she hadn't gotten very far into the letter before she had left to come to the park.

She wouldn't.

I hope.

After receiving Amy's comfortings again, Pally sat on Em's bed, near the footboard. After a moment or two, she knocked her shoes off, then pulled her feet to herself, propping her chin on her knees. It had toally slipped Paula's mind that she still had the letter from Emily to M.I.T. in her hand. She really needed Em, now, but would wait, if that was what she needed to do.

Amy looks over to her best friend and sighs.

"You wanna give her a call or are you wanting to just wait until she gets back?"

The teenager looks at the letter still in Pally's hand.

"You may want to put that back where you found it, hon. If she finds out that you went through her stuff she's going to come unglued."

Pally's eye become huge like plates, as she begins to panic in her head. She quickly gets up and tries to remember where everything was, placing them back, just as Amy says to do. The Latina can be heard muttering in Spanish. Amy chuckles a bit, knowing that Pally is cussing to herself.

"So, what do you want to do now?"

"So, what do you want to do now," Amy asked.

Pally thought it over for a few moments. She wanted to have Em there. She wanted to spend as much time with her friend as was humanly possile, before she was gone, forever. But, Em was going to need a good send off. Looking up to Amy she suddenly grinned a bit lop-sidedly.

"Why don't we go shopping for her some stuffs, huh," she said sounding upbeat again. "We just need ta call her real quick ta let her know we're out."

"Sweet," the teen from SoCal exclaimed eagerly. "I'm always up for shopping!"

The smiling boy was quickly intercepted, as Pally, with one hand gently and steadily pushed him backwards from the door, and with the other, pulled Amy outside of the room, with her. She smiled congenially, and shook her head as she spoke.

"Sorry, homes. We were just about to leave. Can't have joo pokin' around and get hurt. I ain't goin' ta detention for a stranger, much less a boy in my room."

A soft beeping came from Em's com unit laying on the warm cement off to her side. She turned slightly to look at it, hand reaching out for it as she scanned the readout to see who was calling. Her hand paused in midair as she recognized the com signal. It was Pallila, calling on a private channel. She hesitated, and before she could grab the headset and answer, the beeping had stopped.

Sitting up, she stared across the pond to the rest of the park. How long had she been here? She looked down at her watch. 2 o'clock.

She picked up the comlink and placed the headset over one ear and making sure it was secure. She bent her knees and jumped, flying across the water to land softly on the ground on the other side. She walked up to the road, and looked around, searching for a payphone. After a bit of walking around, she spotted one. Picking up the reciever, she slotted several coins and dialed a number.

"Hello, admissions? Yes, I'll hold." A long pause. "Hi, I'd like to arrange a meeting with an advisor...Emily Parker...no, Parker...P-A-R-K-E-R...yes, I'm familiar with the area...I'll be there...Okay, 3:30. Thanks."

Palilla collapsed on the bed, with a few suit cases in her hands. She had to admit that that Detective guy had a good idea as far as hiding the send off gifts. She didn't mean to seem rude to him, but he was Amy's friend, not his, so she went ahead and did her shopping, while the two of them had their discussion. Amy seemed a bit off when she caught up with Paula, but soon the therapy of shopping had seemed to wipe away whatever unplesantness was going on.

Looking over to Amy, similarly collapsed, Pally smiled and giggled. So much stuff was going on, right now, but somehow having made this other friend was going to help so much. She just wished she could count on Jayna to be there, too. Although, she was more of Em's friend, than his. Regardless, she had to get back up, and put the suitcases away, for now. Just a few moments later, she plopped beside Amy, laughing.
