Kicking Around... Burning It Up!

Post by crucibus »

Classes were over. Crucibus, known to regular people as Gabriel Sparks, was wandering about outside. He wondered if he would ever be able to control his powers to the point of no longer neeing inhibitors, or the stupid containment suit the Army had made for him. Regardless, he felt like a menace trying to not look like one. A "Grade A" hypocrite. He could never be like normal super-powered people, even though he longed to.

He stopped to look at the sun. It was the least cold area of the environment around him. The entire world felt cold to Gabriel. He chuckled at the thought that he probably was going to stop being popular once summer rolled around. Summer. Sheesh! All of these good looking kids dressed in summer clothes was both exhilerating and saddening to the pale blonde teen.

Looking around he knew what and who he needed. He needed to find that cute defender, and see if she was up to trashing more Trolls and Outcasts! She was something else in that suit... Heck! Her powers alone were awesome! He just needed to get out a incinerate a few baddies, that was all.

Starting to trot, the six foot blonde became a muscled flashpoint, as he dropped his concentration, and allowed the heat to flow forth. He really hoped the school would forgive his wilting and drying of the plants. He really didn't mean to harm them. They were just doing their plant thing.

((Not willing to admit it, eh? I smell juicy material for the rumor mill!))

Not finding his previous trashing partner, Crucibus waded into the Hollows again. The place was a warzone, and as such, felt like a place where he could be himself. There was no pretense that he was a benevolent human being, or that he was there to kill anything that moved. He was simply an embodiment of the natural law of survival. In the end, he would stand unfettered in places such as this, and the bad guys would cower or run in absolute fear. Fear of the power of those who fought for what was right and good about the world.

After smashing two volts together, to make a small upside down V, Crucibus looked about. On the other side of this hill stood Grendel's Gulch. He thrilled at the combat he would do there. But, not today. He wasn't quite ready for that, just yet. Maybe in a week, after gaining Flux's confidence, and that of Julius the Troll, he would move on into the Gulch, and show the Trolls just what a fight was all about.

It was a fun, hard day, but play time was over. Crucibus returned to the campus, and concentrated deeply, shutting down as much of his ambient temperature as possible. He felt the breeze, and shivered. It always felt cold, but he liked it, really. It felt different from heat. He wondered just how hot other people found him to be, temperature-wise.

A Few Days Later...

Crucibus bounded into the light at the otherside of the Security Gate to The Hollows. He was safe, now. Why did he have to speak? Why did he have to see her? He had heard she was already taken... and oddly enough, by another girl. Chuckling, Gabriel shook his hed, and felt the bullshit meter ringing in his ear. That girl was way out of his league, and he'd do best to just stick to quietly observing her from a distance, or going out with the guys to do justice. Shoving away from the wall, he ran on into Cherry Hills, lighting himself off like a roman candle, and crashing into the thugs and addicts who terrorized what used to be a nice neighborhood.

After dropping his third huddle of Outcasts, Gabe stopped to ponder why he was acting like this. It was kind of funny, when he played psychiatrist with himself. She was just some self-absorbed girl. Or was she? Most likely she had a wickedly deep story, that involved all of the key elements to being a human. A real human. He wanted that. More than anything in the world. Sort of like the storybook kid, Pinnochio, he had heard one of the nunns refer to, after he mentioned wanting to be human, like everyone else. But, that was just it. He was a rip off. A fake, designed to placate the masses, visually, while he followed orders and was the frightening weapon of the people.

Who was he kidding? He had no right to presume he could be like these others! The best he could hope for was to be able to walk amongst them, and when they needed him to, be an extension of their wil to cleanse themselves of superpowered filth like the Trolls. There was nothing wrong with that.

Crucibus nodded as superhot rivulets of evaporating water trailed down his face. He was so glad nobody was here to see him being pathetic. He was supposed to be strong, and while not invincible, an overwhemling force. But, right now he felt weak, and underwhelming. He needed to take down a few more of these goons to feel useful, again. Those ones in the stockyard of that warehouse would suffice. There were just enough of them to keep him occupied, and cheer him up.

"Yo! 'Sup, boyfriend," he mocked as he jumped into the midst of the Trolls. "I'm here to add flare to your party!"

The fight was fun, but the day was over. Gabriel packed it up and headed back toward the school, thoroughly pleased with his successes of the day. Sure, he couldn't do anything about the missing student, but he could help Wincott find his son, Sam. And, that was good work, too.

As he crossed the campus he saw the different students going this way and that, and alowed himself the time to admire his peers. There were short perky girls, big burly guys, and a mix of both in between. Looking through all of them, however, he saw a guy he thought he might try to be friends with, though.

It was an almost movie perfect moment! The young man's brownish hair showed like deep, rich wood, and wore he glasses reminiscent of the Daddy-O shades of the 50's and 60's that somehow seemed to obscure his eyes, even though they weren't shades. He was cool, handsome, and seemed a bit aloof. Gabe wondered who he was, but walked into the side of a building, and thus lost site of the guy.

Yes. It was certainly a movie perfect moment, he considered as he looked up at the sky from his new vantage point. His shades were broken, and the world seemed to harshly bright from the light emitted by his own aura. He would have to make do with squinting til he got back to the dorm room they rigged for him in the basement. He hoped he didn't look like a fool in the eyes of that mysterious guy. That would be a bit more than he could handle, right now.
