Courtney and her twin sister grew up in Toronto, Canada. Their mother is a senior executive with a major energy development corporation. Their father died when they were young. About six months ago, both girls were caught in a lab experiment gone horribly wrong. Courtney awoke with strange new abilities. Her sister simply vanished.
At first, Courtney exhibited regenerative qualities, both for herself and for those around her. The benign nature of these abilities helped allay any sense of alarm. However, as time passed, she began to display other effects from the accident. Dark clouds would appear around her, electronic devices would occasionally malfunction, and sometimes her regenerative auras would reverse themselves and make those around her sick. Her appearance also changed, as the colour leeched from her skin until she was white as a ghost.
Alarmed by these changes, as well as the girl’s increasingly belligerent attitude, Courtney’s mother arranged for her to attend a special school.
