Settling In

by Simon St James
Simon happily waltzed into the transient student quarters, and began packing his stuff. He met a guy, who wanted him to move into the guys Quad 5. Well, since he seemed to know what he was talking about, Simon was going along with it. He repacked his lock boxes, and stacked them on the cargo dolly, and proceeded to Quad 5. Once there, he knocked, just in case. One never could tell what kind of craziness he might come in on, and it was just safer this way.
A big guy walked by and cracked his knuckles looking disgusted, but simon merely charged his hand with plasma energy, and waved cheerfully. Bullies were all the same, everywhere you went. And, though he wasn't looking for a fight, people had Simon St. James read all wrong if they thought they could push him around. He knew it meant he was getting detention, sooner or later, but it really didn't bother him too much. Why let anything bother you that much? Life was just too danged short to go and do that.

by Misericorde
Misericorde opened the door. Somehow he'd managed to beat Simon up to the Quad...not all that unbelievable, since Simon was carting around his luggage.
"By the way, I'm Michael...or Mis, short for Misericorde. That guy..." he said, peeking around the doorframe as the big kid rounded the corner, "...is Biff Hannigan. Looks like you're on his hit list, like Jai and I."
Mis quickly ushers Simon inside, and shuts the door with a click. "That Biff...he may look big and mean, and he is, but he's not stupid. He's nigh invulnerable and a senior, so watch out."
He indicates a bunk near the window. "That one's yours. I took the one closest to the door, since I like to come and go at all hours. Jai hasn't officially moved in from his old room, yet."
Mis stretches, then heads out the door, calling over his shoulder, "Sorry I can't stay later, but I have a class in about a minute. Remember, no powers at school!"

"Wow! Uh, thanks, buddeh," Simon called after the retreating Mis. "Welp! At least now I get to unpack everything! Now... Where to put the girls?"
He sat on his new bed, and looked around. Unlocking all of the boxes, Simon started with the smallest box, and then worked his way to the largest box, placing the smaller box into its next larger cousin, kachina doll style. As he did, he started singing, his rich baritone voice making the sond resonate just a tad from off of the walls. Something would have to be done about that. Maybe a few tapestries and pictures on the walls would do the trick.
Finally, it was all packed away, and the footlocker with all of the smaller boxes slid to the foot of the bed. The bed was remade, showing none of the floor underneath, and photos were hung on his portion of wall, making onethird of the room feel like it was sectioned from an oldfashioned house, and pasted into the quad. Simon looked on with an appreciative smile.
"Now that's more like it," she said, as he had a seat on the bed, and tried to imagine how to make it all mesh together.
