Saint Joseph School

(This is a very late post please read it with wonky time in mind)
Part One:
Kalie sat in the waiting room of the hospital her hand tightly clenched around a torn and tattered Kleenex, her face was streaked with tears and swollen from the crying. The last twenty four hours has been the hardest time she has ever known.
Her day had started out with the Ritki war and bombs everywhere. Kalie went to the hall in the quad and read the list of missing stopping at her dad’s name and lingering there. Saying to herself where are you dad I need you. She knew her mom would be ok she was the highest class hero the only reason she still worked for the longbow was because of her dad. But recently her parents had been taking some time apart. They did that occasionally threw out her life her mom and dad would spend six months or even a year apart but when they came back together they were in every bit of love as they had ever been, Kalie called them extended vacations. Kalie had always stayed with her dad during these “vacations” and now with her dad missing she was incredibly worried.
Kalie met Gabe in the office of the vanguard building and was getting ready to go on patrol when one of the longbow commanders came up to her. Kalie couldn’t believe her ears she was being asked to help rescue a group of longbow a group her dad had been with before he came up missing. She accepted the mission and asked Gabe to help her and they were in the back of a truck driving there the warzone on their way to the secret entrance. Kalie was really quiet she always got that way during fights her concentration was impeccable so she didn’t hear Gabe as he was telling her that he loved her and everything was going to be ok, it took a while but Gabe finally just gave up and decided the best thing he could do was just be there for her.
In the underground tunnels that they were making their way thru Kalie was vicious she didn’t really give anyone much of a chance her claws where slicing thru the aliens and she wasn’t even stopping just going from one to another. When she got to the first longbow agent Kalie started to loose concentration she had taken some damage to her arm but they managed to free John from the clutches of the aliens and Kalie immediately started to question her father’s team mate and friend. Kalie’s heart filled with hope when she found out her dad had been there just ten minutes earlier maybe she would find him today. Gabe put a med patch on John and sent him back to the hospital.
Kalie turned to Gabe he is here I know it we just have to find him her eyes turned very cat like the shape of her pupil changed into a half slanted diamond and her face contoured into a more cat like shape whisker popping out on her cheeks. Gabe was watching in amazement as his girlfriend went from a human with some cat like features to a pure cat with a few human features, he didn’t say much just watched as Kalie turning into not a young high school student but a fierce fighter. Together they moved thru the tunnels getting closer and deeper into the underground maze that the Ritki had created.
The aliens where stronger and stronger but Kalie didn’t let it bother her she just kept going finally they got to another room there was a longbow agent tied up to a hoist and was being tortured. The aliens where trying to get information out of him. Kalie and Gabe flanked the door and Kalie looked at Gabe and mouth on three. Kalie didn’t wait till three though when she heard a round of screams she knew it was her father and she jumped into the room. There was a flurry of fur and laser beams blood went everywhere and the green slim of the aliens coated the floor. It took a while but Kalie took every one of the aliens down before she collapsed from her own injuries. Gabe was healing her and she growled no him heal him. So Gabe went over and healed her dad and untied him. It wasn’t until her dad hand her embraced in a tight hug that she would let Gabe heal her.
The three of them composed them self’s and Kalie and her dad spent a fair amount of time embraced in a loving hug. Gabe felt bad breaking up the family reunion but he was right there presence was now known and they had to get out before it was too late. “Robert” Gabe said “how many more of you are there?” Kalie’s dad just held up 2 fingers and Kalie replied let’s get them and out the door they went.
The first group the three of them came too where tough Kalie had a hard time keeping up with them and her father wasn’t as strong as she was. Gabe couldn’t keep them healed and by the end of it Kalie was bleeding and Gabe couldn’t really keep her healed. Robert knew that things where bad and that they were overwhelmed and what happened next was the most horrific thing Kalie had ever had to deal with.
They were in the middle of a series of tunnels and they could see Ritki coming at them from all angles. They wouldn’t survive this Kalie knew it was probably the end she turned to Gabe and kissed him passionately on the lips. Thank you for coming to help me she whispered in his ear. Then she felt it the sharp stinging pain in her leg the gun had struk her right in the thigh and she was bleeding. Then she felt the burning sensation and her med badge started to activate. It’s wasn’t until she turned to her father that she realized it was he who had shot her. The words he spoke will linger in her ears forever “Kalie my sweet little girl you are my everything and you and Gabriel will be far more beneficial to the world then me, if they get here they will deactivate the medical badges that can’t happen.” Kalie screamed NO! At the top of her lungs but it was too late she was speeding threw the air teleported back to the Vanguard medical building. The last images she will ever see of her father being the lasers cutting threw his body as he fell to the aliens.
Her father had shot her and Gabriel to save them and now they lay in the hospital bay and Kalie couldn’t breathe. She was hysterical no one could calm her not Gabe or the doctor anyone. Finally the doctor shot her with a tranquilizer and Kalie fell asleep with Gabe wrapping his arms around her comforting her with the words “he loved you so much Kalie.”
Kalie woke up a few hours later to the medical Doctor telling her that her mother had been found and that she needed Kalie. Kalie looked around for Gabe but he was gone so Kalie went with the doctor to the Helicopter and flew to the Isle’s to find her mother. When she got to the longbow medical station in Mercy Island her mother was not conscious. Her mother’s wounds were not healing and Kalie knew why her father was gone. Her parents had been magically linked for years and when her father died he took a piece of her mother with him. Kalie would be lucky if her mother survived this day. The Doctors where going to operate on her to fix the damage her mother wasn’t healing. Kalie knew that her mother was going to heal slowly now less than a normal human because of the bond being broken so severely and without warning. Her mother had no time to prep for it. In Short her mother had to have the will to live, so Kalie sat here in the hospital wrapping her hands around this tattered Kleenex waiting for word on how her mother had come thru the surgery.

Part Two:
Kalie smelled him before she felt his presence or heard his breathing. She turned to face Gabe her eyes bursting with tears again. By the time Gabe took her into his arms she was collapsing into him. “It’s ok Kalie I am here for you.” Gabe was trying to be encouraging but Kalie just shook her head “NO it won’t ever be ok again.” Kalie clung to him crying and shaking waiting for them to come tell her that her mother was going to live. Kalie felt the magical bond opening between her and Gabe she didn’t want that not now, not like this. Kalie pulled away from Gabe and closed down her emotions forcing the magical bond that was trying to create it’s self to retreat. Gabe looked up at Kalie “are you ok that felt weird.” Kalie just nodded and curled up in a chair on the other side of the room from Gabe. It was eight hours of silence later when the doctor came in and woke Kalie to tell her that her mother was going to live threw the injuries but that she was in a comma and they didn’t know how that was going to turn out.
Kalie took Gabe’s hand and walked into the ICU and sat down next to her mother. Kalie spoke to her mother in another language one Gabe didn’t recognize. Kalie kissed her mother on the forehead and took her mother’s hand. Gabe just stood there watching as Kalie clung to her last parent. The last person in this world that she had. It was about thirty minutes later that Gabe said “I think I am going to go back to school and give you some time with your mom, If you need me just give me a call I will come right back.” Kalie stood up and took Gabe into a warm embrace “I love you Gabe more than Life it’s self and I really appreciate you being here for me. Thank you.” With that Gabe left and Kalie resumed her post next to her mother.
It was two weeks later before her mother opened her eyes. Kalie was there by her side for the majority of the time. It was so hard for Kalie sitting there watching the anguish in her mother’s eyes. She was unable to speak yet just blink her eyes. Kalie knew her mother understood her and that her mother knew why her father had given up his life for Kalie and Gabe. The feelings of guilt over whelmed Kalie she felt like it was her fault he dad was gone. She wondered if her mother blamed her and had known way of really asking.
It was four days after her mother opened her eyes that she started to talk. Her first words where “Kalie dear it isn’t your fault, please stop feeling bad.” Kalie broke down into tears those simple words from her mother made her feel so much better. Kalie told her mom exactly what had happened and that she had gone so ferial and killed all those aliens. Her mother and she had several long talks about what it were to be a Cat and the changes that her body was going thru and the things she could expect. Kalie told her mom just how much she loved Gabe and her mother told her that she felt the same way about her dad.
It took four months for Kalie’s mom to get back to normal the whole time Kalie was with her by her side helping her being strong for her mom. Gabe and her’s relationship became stressed and Gabe was missing Kalie and Kalie was missing him but she knew she had to be there for her mother.
It was very hard on Kalie when her mother said to her “I am going back into the underground Kalie, I was doing some real good and now that your father is gone and you’re grown I don’t have much keeping me here. You don’t need me like you used to and I need to forget who I was.” Kalie was crying telling her mom I do need you but her mother had made up her mind. Kalie was going to be alone again and there was nothing she could do about it. Cat people don’t have the kind of emotional attachments that humans do so for her mother it was no big deal to Kalie she felt like her mother was abandoning her.
