Drifting... [ Evolutionary Angel Part 2 ]

Time had no meaning.
All that was left of her was the fragments that she used to know as her mind. Anything resembling a physical form had long since drifted away leaving nothing but the rawness of her being. And even that was begining to slip.
It felt like she was dirfting to sleep, something that was long since alien to her. It had a certain comfort to it. Something long overdue.
She felt something like a tug on her mind. It felt as though it came from a great distance, but she felt it none the less. It was like it was trying to wake her back up. At first it was a nusance, this rude awakening. But it continuted to poke her, seeming to become more desperate with each touch.
It was a struggle for her, but her thoughts flared to life. Even with her newfound alertness, she could feel the pull back to the void she had begun to sink into. And she realized what lay there...
Time.
Time meant nothing, yet she could feel a sense of urgency. If she didn't hurry she would lose to the call of sleep.
Her mind reached out, trying to locate that which had called out to her with such urgency. She had felt a strange sort of kinship with the strange touch. As if, whatever it was, was in the same dire straits as she was. She knew it also was holding on, searching desperatly for it's salvation. Trying with all it's might to avoid sinking into obscurity.
She felt it once more, still more desperate than before. It was all that was needed though, as she began to 'move' towards it's location.
It was travel without time, yet it seemed to take eons. As she traveled the cosmos around her, she past many a wonder. Nebulous clouds, old stars nearing super-nova, young ones burning bright and fierce, and many a worlds, some with the energy of life, some cold and dead. It was a beauty that made her want to cry out. Yet she had to remain focused on reaching her destination.
It's physical form came to focus. A single point of light, it was so tiny. Even smaller still in comparison to what she had witnessed while trying to reach it.
Her mind cryed out passionatly as it's nature became apparent to her. It had come to being on it's own, struggled with all it's might to achieve it's existence, yet in doing so it had exausted itself and was on the verge of returning to the void from which it had emerged.
Her thoughts reached out to carress and comfort it. It had reached out to her, as if saying 'you're not alone', and she returned the feelings in kind.
Yet as they shared in each other, they both knew what the other wanted. An escape from thier shared fate. They knew what could be done to avoid it, yet they both knew that only one could live on in this world.
To take it into her own being, she could regain the energy she needed to once again live as a physical being. Yet doing so would consume it in the process. Yet the being had the same dillema, if she gave of herself, it would have it's chance to become great. A new star, with new worlds of its own, and many new lives would be born upon those worlds. Yet she would cease to be.
With either choice came a duty. A duty to the one who chose to sacrifice for the other. A duty to live for the both of them, to live on and flourish.
They knew what was needed and both came to an acceptance. It's pressence touched her one last time, a touch that seemed to say 'I leave the decision to you. I will be satisfied with either'.
She steeled her heart...
The choice was made...
There was no going back...
