Sadness...

Jasmine sat on the roof of the science building, sitting with her knees up to her chin and her arms wrapped around her legs.
"Aw, shit."
Was all she said out loud before she buried her face between her knees.
Moments before she had come to the roof, she had gotten a letter from home. Not just any letter, but a letter stamped and officially sealed by the family trust. She knew it was something important, and she almost didn't want to open it. She had to.
Dearest Jasmine,
With deep regret and hearts filled with sadness we are writing this letter to you. We also figured that if we had sent it not sealed and stamped you wouldn't read it. But alas, we truly did not want to send it at all. Over that last 3 months your mother has been battling breast cancer, Jasmine. We know that you are probably furious for never knowing this, but you can not blame us. Your father had wished us to not burden you with this information, and your mother ever as silent and peaceful had agreed. With extreme apologies we wished we had spoken sooner to you about this. Your gift and your gift alone might have been able to save her. The cancer was already to far along to fight, you see the treaments would have only shortened your mothers life. Through some small summoning and divining rituals, we found the cause of the cancer was actually your father. He had done so as an act of defiance towards you. Bitter that you received the gift and he had not, he decided to try and push you farther towards the evil that is part of our family. We know you struggle with your destiny, Jasmine, but we are not all evil people in the St. Cloud Trust. Your gift could have tore the cancer right from her body, and destroyed the deamon your father used to infect her. That is why we could not tell you this, your father feared from the retribution from you.
After reading this letter up to this point, we realize you have probably figured out what we are about to say. Jasmine, your mother passed away Friday night around 11pm. With utmost sincerity, we offer our total condolences to you and our hearts reach out to you Jasmine. Your mother as a married in member of this family, did have a soul, and she did go to heaven. So, there is some joy in that.
This leads us to the business point of this letter. Your mother was the chairman of the board for the Trust Jasmine. NOT your father, he was simply a trustee. Why do we tell you this Jasmine? Because your fathers will to carry out this destiny of yours, and your mother only wanted you to be happy and enjoy life. The Trust as a whole has read your mother's will Jasmine. The Trust is now no longer needed, and you are the beneficiary. The entire 120.4 million dollar trust now belongs soley to you.
As the rest of your family knows this and is not happy, we wish you the best of luck, and if you need any of us to assist you, or even be there for you, let us know. Good luck with school, Jasmine, and my God smile down on you with your mother at his side.
Sincerely,
The St. Cloud Family Trust
The letter sat slightly under her boot, wind blowing it slightly. A single tear fell from her eye and landed on the paper.
"Mom, I'm sorry I wasn't there.... I miss you."
And then she buried her face back into her knees, and slowly disappeared into the shadows. The breeze picked up a little bit and the letter that sat there, now unattended, blew away in the breeze. As the paper blew and tossed around in the breeze, you could almost hear a soft whispered lullaby hummed as it went by.
