We've established we don't have guard stations and security. There's obviously a bed-check at curfew. There's probably some nuns that patrol the halls at night. But does someone patrol the dormitory corridors during the day?
If they had a ton of people over to their room during the day on a Saturday, and they weren't overly disruptive, would anybody even notice?

My turn. Purely for forum rp and story telling.
Something I've talked about with various people for a while. Considering the open door policy in the dorms, would it be possible for Bryan, Jason and Jake (if he's ok with the idea) to host a movie party in their dorm on a Saturday afternoon or something? Is this possilbe?
I would think we would have some sort of open area either on the floor we are on, or at least on the main floor where I'm sure we could reserve time to use the tv and dvd player or something. Most dorm rooms would be cramped with just the 4 people living there
Sounds cool tho.

This is what I meant by a common room or lounge.

Well, yes and no, and I waffle for story reasons. I do not want to accidentally start a 'slippery slope' by saying "probably no one would notice" and then having a lack of supervision be used by someone else to justify something we wouldn't want happening.
Plus, I think "a ton of people" aged 14-17 would have a VERY hard time keeping in quiet
In general, if we're talking about having a few people, that's fine. More than 6 or 8 people is going to start to be cramped in one of the boys' dormrooms, and maybe a "lounge" should play in.

As long as we're on the subject, what are the rules for guys in the girls' dorms and vice versa? Any time or location restrictions?

Well, I think a page or two back, I mentioned a "door open" policy. That is to say, when someone has a guest in their room, they are expected to leave their door open at least a foot (so as to diminish the sense of privacy, and lessen the chances of hanky-panky).
During the day, I think boys and girls can freely visit each others' dorms. My temptation is to say that after a certain hour of the evening (or possibly just use the generality "after dark"), you are expected to be back in your gender-appropriate dorm. This probably also applies until after breakfast in the mornings. This is so people can shower or whatever without having to worry about it.
We've said before that the dorms have common-type areas or lounges with things like a fridge, a microwave, some couches and a TV and DVD setup. While the lounges are in the dorms, they are not near the actual dorm rooms themselves. With that in mind, I think the lounges are open for co-mingling until curfew, which is probably something like 9 or 10 pm weeknights and midnight or 1 am Fridays and Saturdays.
And just because someone might ask: NO, NO, A THOUSAND TIMES NO-- time in the real world is not a factor in our curfew. Neither is the rapid passage of day and night in Paragon City. Curfew is a roleplay detail and falls distinctly under the "wonky time" clause of our digital reality.

I've already started fielding questions about this, so let me clarify. Plenty of people use "curfew" to justify when they log off, particularly the late-night crowd. Just the same way that people tend to say something about dropping by the dining hall if they're logging during the afternoon. That's fine, and that's exactly what I meant by "roleplay detail." The reason I stress that it is not connected directly to real-world time is that we have players in different time-zones and who play at different schedules. A person who logs out at 10pm and a person who logs out three hours later can
both say "gotta get in before curfew" and no one is supposed to say something like "you're already breaking curfew."
Do not try to "enforce" curfew on each other. That's another thing.
In the fiction, we can all agree that curfew exists at a set time. In-game, however, it must be wonky time or else we're going to have stupid arguments.

Not only that, but if we used in game time, we'd all be leaving game about every hour or so, as day changed to night. Run one mission starting at dawn, finish it, come outside, and it'd be nighttime already. How much of pain would THAT be?

Mimi, I've been wondering something ...
There's a thread discussing the possibility of a "Gamma league" football team, and a lot of talk about Coach Waters. I've re-read his Supporting Cast thread, and there's a sticky question I just can't figure out.
How does, or does, Coach Waters suppress the powers of students whose abilities are 'magical' or 'natural' in origin? I know there are very few students with these origins, because the point of SJS is to have students who don't have a 'choice' about being superpowered, hence the barring of the 'tech' origin for characters who would use gadgets.
I know that magical and natural origins are discouraged, and those that have these origins tend to be characters whose abilities are 'innate,' can't be turned on and off, can't be separated from the thing that brings them power.
I guess I'm mostly curious because Persiflage is a natural origin, and her abilities (super speed, strength, agility, regeneration) are innate. She has human DNA, but she's not human. Would Waters' abilities work on her?
If they do, that's weird and I need to figure out why. If they don't, Persiflage is a great liar and faker if the situation calls for it, and no one has to know that Waters' tweaking abilities aren't working.

Same question.. I mean think of how stupidly good a running back a goat person would be... Even a real goat could wallop your average linebacker... imagine a human sized one. I mean how could you make a alien be on an even field with a human? I've just avoided trying football with Cent for that reason.

In truth, these are tough questions. The truth of the matter is probably that Coach Waters cannot suppress your natural abilities any more than he can suppress someone's ability to breathe or walk.
However, honestly, these are better asked to Oby, who is the contact person on the Football thread. I suspect that for story reasons he mentioned
here, it would hopelessly complicate the story for your characters to use their naturally superior speed and strength and whatever during games against normal high school teams. I guess it also depends on how "super" your natural abilities are.
In game terms, if your natural abilities grant you "Swift", well, then maybe competing isn't an issue. But if your natural abilities grant you "Super Speed" then there's a problem.

In a team sport setting, then, it would matter less if one 'natural' student was playing, because the point would be to coordinate their abilities with the others on the team to play with success. Team sports are not about having one superstar; they're about everyone working together.
I asked because I was considering putting Persiflage on the Swim Team, but (like track and field events) this sport is individual-centered, not team-centered. And if she played full-throttle she'd skew the results, and get attention that she really doesn't want.
So people with innate abilities can make whatever decision is called for, as a character, but I guess keep in mind that you may attract the wrong attention if you're not playing with a team.

This same thing would apply to Jimbari and the swim team and/or football. Think how an 8 foot shark merman would freak the other team out? no one would want to play St Joes anymore.
