Mieri rolled over looking for her stereo she had plugged it into a timer to go off at 5:45 am shortly after her first night in the quads. Her roommates didn’t take to that early of an alarm and this way she just had to wear headphones when she slept. Mieri had been getting up this early for years now and it wasn’t about to change just because she was in America now. She slide out of bed and picked up her bag slipping out of the room quiet as a mouse. When she got to the bathroom down the hall she turned on the light causing blindness in her eyes. This was her favorite time of day she thought pulling her hair back into a tight ponytail and putting on a tight body suit made for running. She threw on socks and shoes and threw her night slip into her back pack. She paused looking into the mirror and smiled reaching down for the antiperspirant and lip gloss she thrown in her back last night after he agreed to go running with her. Two minutes later she was on her way to his quad phone in hand to call him when she got there. Mieri decided to warm up on the way there and jogged over to his door and stretched before calling him.
Ciao Dominic, It’s Mieri with your wake up call. I am down stairs waiting when you are ready.

How long had it been now? Three nights? Four? It really was all starting to blur together. Turn in for bed check, shower, lay there, hope for sleep. Maybe an hour or two, drifting in or out, nothing deep. Always something new on his mind. The dreams were the sort that only made things more confusing.
5:45 Time to get up, Mieri? your already here, no I didn't finish that English paper yet! I still have time to... Another dream.
10:45 What time is it? I'm late! What happened? Rikti! They are everywhere, I can't fight, I'm pinned down. Another dream.
5:42 Was this real? Three minutes, one hundred eighty seconds, seventy nine, seventy eight. The clock turns 5:41. Another dream.
What time is it? 5:42 again. The seconds flow by like a slow river, the stream of time murky with blurred details of sleep and wake.
How long have I been watching this clock? It gets barely half a sound out, before my hand silences it.
Time speeds up, there is the same icy shower, the same smell of the cool morning air, dressed warm for a run, I am ready, everything is in order. Check once, check twice, good to go.

The phone vibrated on his desk as he scooped it up, already heading out the door, dressed down from his normal attire. A large gray sweat shirt, the hood sinking over the front of his face though the signature goggles atop his head remained, no khakis, but a par of black running pants two white stripes down either side, and a shock that was a pair of sneakers, obviously running shoes. "Hey Mieri, Good Morning" he spoke into the phone from the hallway.
The exchange was brief, and quiet, as most of the dorm still slept. He bounced on the balls of his feet quickly warming up as he made his way down the stairs, had he even wound down from the previous day? Probably not.
He greeted her with a smile, its warmth would do little good against the cold cutting air that awaited them outside. "Where too?" He asked, his voice seeming to lack that sleepy quality one would expect to find at this hour.

She smiled hearing his voice and was amazed at how quickly he entered her sight. The she laughed to herself at the running pants they were the opposite of her white one’s with black strips.
Ciao, you sure you are up for this? You look like you didn’t get a lot of sleep?
Mieri didn’t really wait for his answer before she said "We are going to run to Talos it has a beach there and running in the sand is a better work out than anywhere else. Plus the view is really nice as the sun comes up all the way."
Mieri had so many mix emotions flowing threw her: excited to have a running partner, fear she would be over competitive she always was, anxious about if he was faster than her or if he would be able to keep up, then the most important would he want to kiss her at the end after she had been running for so long. She really hoped this new American antiperspirant thing worked. Powdered fresh after a long day at the office sure but after a 10 mile run we will see.
She realized he had been looking at her and she didn’t know if he had been talking or not she was so distracted around him.
Dom I am sorry I wasn’t paying attention would you repeat yourself for my lazy ears no?

He nodded to her response about the location, he had been out there once, well the islands at least for New Years, the small party people had got together. Things were different this time though, those things that threatened them last time, he, they would be ready for them. No one else but her knew that his powers were starting to manifest themselves, to what extent, neither of them knew. He had avoided the subject in the many meetings he had attended. The only thing he was worried about were his hands, the things that could hurt people.
The steady hypnotic sound of the green line train rocking back and forth on the track snapped him back to attention. It was barely light out, but he could see she was looking over to him, probably just as many things on her mind.
"Hmm? Oh no.. sorry I was just thinking" At this hour, there were a few people scattered across the cars making their way in for an early day, he looked up to the large clock 5:59, not a dream.
"Si? About what?" her retort came to him, that sweet voice that would form a crooked smile in the corner of his face.
He never really thought much when he spoke like this, his father had told him, if you have time to think, you will just end up twisting the truth.
"You, the school, the city"
Her smile seemed pleased with the response, yet a bit of concern was still hidden behind her eyes, he didn't show the signs of it yet, no black circles, no groggy voice or heavy eyes, he was awake and alert, if anything a bit distracted. It was nice to have someone to worry.
Walking out into Talos at this point was almost surreal, the sky was a deep orange as the sun crept closer and closer to the horizon, streaks of light starting to spill over as each minute would roll over. 6:11 not a dream. The streets were quiet, not filled with Circle or Warriors or Freakshow. They slept too, probably more than him? There was something that kept him focused, that kept his mind from wandering. Her hand held his as they walked towards their destination.
Inhaling a deep breath, it stung just slightly, the air was still cold here, already the monsters, the devouring earth, worked the soil, he didn't know anything about them. Only that they must not sleep. A frightening though only held back by her hand as he looked down to her with a smile. "I'm ready, I'm here, I'm yours" It could have said so many things, his voice cleared it up with "You ready?"

"You ready?" Dom’s voice asked. “Oh Si I am indeed ready, how about you?”
Mieri was so happy to be here with him getting ready to run her most favourite pass time. He smiled at her nodding in the way that he does and she took off like shot into the sand running not full out but at a descent pace so that she would not tire quickly. She could tell by the burn in her legs how far they had ran close to 3 miles she could see he was getting a little tired so she turned and headed back the way they had come so that they would end rough 6 miles into the run right where they had started on the beach.
Mieri slowed her speed down letting her legs warm down as she could see the beach front nearing them. By the time she was ready to stopped and bent over to catch her breath she has slowed to a jog. It took Dom a couple minutes to catch up to her but he was not too far behind. He was probably as fast if not faster than her but he didn’t have the training and conditioning that she had. She watched him run the rest of the way to her he moved quickly and effortlessly. Her mind wandering again thinking about Kylie catching them in the cryptic lounge his arm wrapped around her and the colour of her face when she realized that there was no denying how she felt about him. Did it really matter what her dad had said, would she have listened to him. Alex was right after all her parents were not going to be winning any awards for the best parents anytime soon. So did it really matter that her father had concented did it ? Mieir couldn't help but feel like she was the luckiest girl alive.

If you focused on the horizon before you started, you could see the line that connected heavens and earth in the distance. As they started to move, he remembered why he enjoyed the morning jog, as each stride took off, he seemed to glide just above the horizon, each time, thinking of something that made it seem as if he wasn't tied to the earth. Moments where you are free, that seemed to be the way to put it. Looking down off a cliff just climbed, staring out across the ocean, that feeling you get just before a roller coaster falls, her lips. He instinctively bit his lower lips remembering, then he landed...
Each time his foot hit the ground, vision sinking just below the horizon, it reminded him of things that bound him to the earth, all that was constant, firm in is life. Time spent with his parents, reading about the newest archaeological finds, boxing, sitting across her in the restaurant. What did that mean? She made him feel as though he could fly, yet kept him grounded. A quick check of his watch 6:28, not a dream.
He ran silently, he could tell his legs should be burning but they weren't, just keep pushing forward. His body slowed, as she pulled away, but did it need to? He watched as she pulled away from him, for the first time focusing on her, and only her. There was a lot to think about, were things supposed to fall into place this easily, fate. She used that word, maybe she was right, did things really work out this way. Move to a new strange place, one of the first people you meet, a girl who grows up 20 miles from your fathers house. How many summers had he spent there with his family? He could have taken a bus, been there, met her sooner. Would that really matter, he enjoyed what he had been through, and what he was going through now. He checked his watch, she was gone, pulled away. Get focused, keep moving, your not really tired.
It wasn't long before he saw her again, running up he slowed to a jog, bending over he breathed heavily. Did he really need to? It seemed like he should.
"I kind of expected that, Military school running from boys for what, years?" He smiled looking over to her, only her eyes weren't there, they were somewhere else. Distant.

Her voice broke to him with her response, as he stood back up seeming to be composted once more. "Tomorrow? Sure why not"
He thought to himself how time moved here, the current picked up, things became less murky. In truth, he just liked being around her, her features, her voice, her movements, when they talked, things moved faster when he was around her.
They started to walk back as a arm fell around her shoulder, only making it so far before he stopped, she quickly followed suit. At first she looked to him, only to his see his eyes looking out over her. She turned to see the sun cresting over one of the islands out in sea. There was a warm smile, before they continued to walk speaking of what would be done for class today, when they each would finished, and possibly doing something later afterwards.
Luck, fate, chance, call it what you want. This was the greatest adventure yet.

Mieri sat in class all day thinking about running with him doing the whole I heart Dom on her notebook. He was fun to be with and she enjoyed seeing him but she was worried about his not sleeping. She was sitting in Math class her best subject thinking about how to talk to him about the whole not sleeping issue when the teacher interrupted her thought process.
“Mieri what is wrong today you seem distracted that isn’t like you?” the teacher seemed very concerned.
“Oh I am sorry I was just thinking about stuff” her cheeks had turned a bright shade of red.
The teacher had asked her to say five minutes after class and while talking to her he asked her to go see Ms. Atwood later that afternoon. Mieri didn’t mind so much having to go see this Ms Atwood. She had had councilors in the past at her other schools this probably wouldn’t be much different.
Finally she has made it the day was over and she could start thinking about the weekend and what she wanted to do. Immediately her thought went to Dom and spending time with him. Put she also wanted to go dancing.
Hello Dom she thought no he likes it when I say ciao. Mieri sighed heavily to herself and pulled out her cell phone and dialed his number.
“Hello Mieri” his voice was so sweet strong it made her smile just hearing him.
“Ciao Dom, how did you know it was me?”
“Caller Id” Dom snickered
“Oh Si, I was calling you to see what your plans where for tonight maybe you would like to go to the pocket D and dance some?”
She could hear his smile over the phone “oh sure that sound great I will meet you there is that good for you”
“Si I have to meet with Ms Atwood first, but I will come to meet you soon as I am done”
“Ok so I will see you later then” Dom said to her.
“Si Ciao Dom” *click* Mieri hung up the phone and went to Icon to buy a new shirt for tonight.
Green I know he likes that color and it will match my brown skirt Mieri was thinking to herself looking at all the shirts to choose from. After making her choice she hurried off to meet Ms. Atwood
