Dillon Murray

Dillon Murray was born and raised in the Carnegie Hill neighborhood of New York City's Manhattan borough. The third of four children, he was introduced to the high class, high cost world of his parents from the get-go. His father Peter is a very successful journalist and author, and his mother Jillian is an in-demand financial analyst and consultant; between the two of them, they amassed a small fortune, and with Jillian's expertise, were capable of affording a high-class lifestyle for themselves and their children.

For much of his early life, Dillon showed signs of unhappiness and unrest. More familiar with the house staff than with his own parents at times, he'd talk to the nannies before his own parents if he had any problems. He proved to be a trouble-maker at school and home, isolating himself from his most of his family further while earning him some popularity at school. Feeling increasingly scornful towards his parents' money and how it affected so much of all of their lives, he developed a deep contempt for the rich and uppity that persists today.

Though Dillon has little love for two of his siblings and his parents, his relationship with his sister Kimmy is much different. Just before she started high school, Kimmy Murray demonstrated mutant abilities; determined to be a ferrokinetic with magnetism powers to boot, her parents chose what they viewed to be the best course of action to deal with their daughter's abilities. She attended Saint Joseph School, nearly a decade before Dillon would ever enroll. However, life outside of her isolated high society home did her good, making her more well-rounded and endearing her to Dillon when she was able to return home on occasion. She now works as a full-time hero in Paragon, something Dillon says nonchalantly but secretly takes pride in; the fact that he'd see more of her by enrolling at SJS was a nice bonus to the whole experience. To date, she is still one of his closest friends and confidants, and she even imparts a bit of wisdom from time to time.

Dillon didn't plan for the summer before Junior year in high school to be anything special. However, it came with the unanticipated development of his own mutant abilities; much like Kimmy's powers, his were metal based, but his involved less control and more shape-shifting. Dillon has alchemy abilities; he could transmute the chemical structure and overall composition of objects and materials with a touch. He thought his own powers weak for a while, and had little trouble keeping them hidden for several months; when they would flare-up, they would do no more than turn the pen he was holding to some type of metal, which he would later pawn off for some extra cash. However, months after he initially discovered his own abilities, a car accident revealed them to the rest of his family; upon being hit, his powers reacted reflexively, transmuting his skin to a protective metal shield, saving him from what could have been a serious crash. However, he was only knocked unconscious as a result of the impact, with no long term damage to speak off, other than some slight skittishness when it comes to unanticipated physical contact. However, the accident opened the metaphorical floodgates for his powers; his powers continue to flare up much more often than before the crash, and his powers activate reflexively during daily life, even during the most mundane activities. As a result, his parents made the decision to enroll him at Saint Joseph School.

A generally outgoing and sarcastic kid, Dillon seems to enjoy his life at Saint Joseph School. He largely dismisses his life in New York as the past, and responds negatively to most inquiries about home, or anything that reminds him of such. Out of the high society he so greatly disliked, with some much needed distance between himself and his family, he's happy with the change of scenery and the new lifestyle he's experiencing. He spends several hours a week with Kimmy, sometimes hanging out, sometimes training, and considers his renewed relationship with his sister a big plus to the whole situation. Still fairly new to the city and the school, with all of its oddities and quirks, he's mostly just taking things day by day, enjoying this new bit of adventure.

(( Issue 15 Update

Dillon has come to view Saint Joe's as home since he arrived. His memories of life back in New York have largely been ignored; he rarely thinks about any part of his life back home (with the exception of a few good friends he still has there), and has acclimated well to Saint Joe's unique environment.

One aspect of life that Dillon has not gotten used to is patrolling. Though he doesn't lack self-esteem in most other aspects of his life, he feels unusually self-conscious and awkward when his powers are activated. With virtually no control over what type of metal he transmutes into at any one time, he is incapable of adjusting to a consistent form; as a result, he is much clumsier than usual, and is hesitant to patrol with others. The unreliability of his powers continues to frustrate him, particularly when they go off at inopportune moments.

Despite all this, Dillon has had little trouble making friends at his new school. He enjoys the wide variety of people that he gets to know, and has largely done his best to steer clear of conflict with others. For the past several months he has dated Matt Lamport.))
