Damian Singleton

Post by Damian Singleton » Mon Jan 26, 2009 12:50 pm

The door to the office creaked open. The room was warm; the atmosphere presented itself as relaxing as the office scent complimented the affectionate ambiance.

Damian entered slowly, his eyes scanning the office. Diplomas and certificates lined the walls, along with artwork. His eyes found the leather chair in front of him and lazily he dropped down into it.

“Wonda where she at?” he asked no one in particular, taking his cell phone out of his pocket to check the time. He was right on time, and in his house, right on time was 15 minutes early. Anything other was late.

His eyes continued to scan the office as he adjusted himself in the leather chair. Across from him was the desk where Ms. Atwood would sit.

It was time for his check up, he had been at SJS for a while, and now it was time to see if he was adapting. More so, if he was accepting the fact that he was different.

Holding his cell phone up in eyes view again Damian checked his time, and sighed in disbelief as the time inched forward.

“Wow, your early Damian.” Ms. Atwood spoke as she walked into the office, past the chair that Damian sat in and over to her own. She carried an arm full of books. Quite noticeable was the sketch pad that she always carried with her.

Seeing that Damian instantly remembered the stories that he heard from Sam, Dar and Diyar about how this lady can “draw” or “sketch” you feelings sort-a-speak. It was as though she could enter your sub-conscious that way, just for a little, just enough to grab whatever info needed, to find out what was really bothering you.

Damian adjusted again, this time uneasily as he spotted the sketch pad, his eyes never leaving it. “Yea, I’m used ta bein’ 15 minutes early ta ev’rythin’. If I’m on-time, I’m late.”

“Hm, as expected from a child of two longbow agents.” She said holding up two fingers, as to emphasize the number two, taking her seat at her slightly modern glass desk.

“Yea” Damian answered, pushing forward a fake smile, as he sat upright, to show respect to the adult that was now sitting in front of him. Damian didn’t like the idea of Longbow, and it was a profession that he did not want to join. He received a lot of praise from the teachers at SJS because his parents were both part of Longbow. The main question that always seemed to find its way to the light was, “Are you gonna follow in your parents footsteps?” The Answer he would want to give was HELL no, but instead, he would answer with the lie. “Of course!”

“Ready to start the session Damian, I will definitely have you out of here by first period.” She said looking at the boys’ schedule, then placing her sketch pad to the center of the desk.

“Sure, let’s get started.” He answered. Slight excitement came over him, knowing that within 30 minutes he should be out of here.

Time passed as the two talked. Damian tried to make it apparent that he was adjusting well to SJS. Being on the football team helped with that adjustment a little, even if there was the playbook situation. But, they still won the game, so there were no worries.

He'd been making friends left and right, which opened the door to him knowing sign language, when he brought up the “New Friends” subject. His sister was brought up, and Damian quickly changed the subject to his powers. She was rocky road, and Damian didn’t like traveling that path.

“Ok, your powers?” Ms. Atwood asked, continuing to sketch in her book. The sketching had Damians’ attention from the beginning, but he finally had to ask about it. The pencil to dry drawing paper in the silence of the office began to work his nerves.

“What are ya drawin’ Ms. Atwood?” He asked pointing to the sketch pad.

“This…just, what I see.” She answered not breaking her sight from her book.

“Well…whad'ya see? Me explodin’ into an EMP?” He asked with a nervous chuckle.

Ms. Atwoods’ eyes finally broke away from the sketch pad as she looked directly into Damians eyes. Little did he know, that was exactly what she was drawing. “What? Is that what you’re scared of Damian?”

“Scared of?” Damian asked, “Scared of?” He repeated, just then the conversation got weird. Hey, he was told about her from the gate and he knew she was right, she was reading him like a book. “Lady, I walk into a room and lights flicker. I can’t touch anyone without wearing these” He said holding up his gloved hands, “an if a do…dey get electrocuted.” He smiled as he laughed out, “Ms. Atwood, I can drain electricity out of electrical sockets. Just for an extra energy boost. Dats not normal.”

Ms Atwood looked back at her sketch pad then back to Damian who was sitting a little more uneasily in the chair in front of her.

“Yea…EMP. Dat is somethin’ dat scares meh.”

“Well that’s why you are here Damian.” She said looking at him. “Time for you class.” She said as the bell rung. “Keep In mind, SJS is here to help.”

“Right” Damian said as he pushed himself up from the chair, grabbing his backpack slinging it over his right shoulder. He walked towards the door and opened it. The hallway flooded with students as they made their way to their first class of the day.

“See you soon Damian.”

I15 Update

Damian's life is going good. He has no complaints, he is still dating Makena Walker and things between the two are great. But, with her ballet and his football, they don't see each other much.

Not too long ago his sister came back home. For him it was a shock to see her again after so long, but the one thing that caught him off guard was her power manifestation, and the abrupt change it went through. The two have the typical brother and sister relationship, sometimes they love one another, sometimes they don't.

This is Damian's last year at SJS, so his mind is totally on his books and football. His goal in life is to sign the scholarship for Wake Forest University. He' knows that they are looking at him and want him, he just has to seal the deal. This year he will be playing Quarterback for the Flyers and to him this is the best opportunity that he could have.

Damian's parents still leave the country alot to work for Longbow, still leaving him the big house in the Hero Heights area. Only thing is, he has to share the wealth now.

He has gained more control over his powers and with that learned to do more things with his power. He has a power burst that he likes to call EMP. He explodes sending a shock wave out and ((Typically it will/might wipe out electronics)). This power scares alot of people when he does us it. and only a certain amount of people have seen this power.

Damian has a lot of friends at SJS and still has the handful of friends at Prescott that he can still trust. He still likes to joke around and have fun, but soon he might begin to change a little, ie. not staying out as late, working out alot and talking about football alot. It's crunch-time for him.

Dozer!

A-may-zing football season, bud. I'm gonna miss seeing you on the D-line. And the O-line. And in the halls.

Prescott's loss - SJS's gain.

Go Flyers!
