Saint Joseph School

Okay people.

We're having an NPC drive. We have a whole lot of gaps to fill, and some of the gaps are really noticable. Recently, ARaven asked for some help coming up with a character who he wanted to start as an NPC and then alter. And we didn;t have, like, any available NPCs! So I'm asking everyone to try to come up with one SJS staffer, student, or affiliated character.

If everyone active on the forums participates, we'll net like 30 NPCs.

Some ideas:

Nuns of the Order of Cupertino.
Students besides Biff and his buddies.
Teachers.
That guy who always tries to panhandle in front of the school but Scruffy shooes him away all the time.

Anyway, come up with one. Or even more, if it strikes you.

They don't all have to go down in history as the greatest. Many of them will never see use, probably. But if they at least can be names on papers, or faces in the halls, well, that's something.

Sister Charlotte Dimdee

-A small kind, but naive and overly trusting, old woman. She's very eccentric, wears too much rouge, keeps a talking parrot in class, and teaches poetry and Elizabethan literature. She's a romantic at heart and is just a really sweet old lady.

-Sister Mary Perpetua

Called "Pete" by the students, this mousy, rail-thin nun was born into a family of wealth and privilege. Traveling the world in search of the spiritual fulfillment that her parents' money could not give her, she studied with Buddhist monks in Tibet and with a Hindu guru in India. She lived in a Jewish kibbutz in Israel, a Wiccan enclave in Vermont, and a Scientologist commune in California. It was after attending Woodstock that she entered the convent, and took her vows in 1971. Sister Pete teaches both comparative religion and philosophy, and holds a yoga class on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons in the gym. Many young heroes have found that learning to balance and breathe has given them better control over their powers.

Sister Mary Carmen

She's the closest and greatest thing St. Joe's has in a music and drama teacher (she also handles the Fall play and the Spring musicals). Sister Carmen is essentially a Sonics/Sonics blaster who has specialized her abilities into being able to mimic any known instrument, and sometimes more than one at a time. She's her own ensemble!

You should hear her rendition of a barber shop quartet sometime!

Malcolm Taylor- Boy Genius
Malcolm, like most kids attends St Joe's because of his special powers. And like some of the kids here his powers make him so different as to not have much social competence. He's your basic nerd. His brain development exceeds that of most humanity allowing him greater access to brain power.. his specialty is telekinesis. he is commonly found in the science lab working on some project or the next. his telekinetic 'hands' as he calls them allowing him to multitask task at a level that would drive most people insane. He's one of the few survivors of a Rikti attack on his old school. he rarely talks to anyone, knowing that few of his fellow students can comprehend his projects.

Um, is this a rule that is specific to the Order of Cupertino? Because in real life, nuns aren't constricted to "Sister Mary ___". A famous example: Mother Teresa. A less famous but more interesting example: Mother Cabrini, or more properly Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, was born Maria Francesca Cabrini but ended up dropping the Mary-variant first name when she became a nun. Just curious.

No, not a joke, just me showing my own ignorance. When I was in school, literally *all* the sisters were named Sister Mary Something. I guess in my head I know this is not universal, but it was a convention I got very comfortable with, and eventually got ingrained into my head.

I actually sent off an email to catholic.org to see if they can shed light on this for me, but maybe one of you also knows the answer: in all the research I've done, and taking in my own experiences, I have found that about 80% of nuns seem to be named Sister Mary Something. The other 2 in 10 are all sorts of more regular-sounding names. Is this just a tradition, or determined by order, or what?

Oh, I phrased the question much more formally when I sent it off to the Church. If I get a reply, I will post it.

Murdoc Russel
A quiet and thoughtful freshman boy, Murdoc has high-end parents who paid for his enrollment, much to his embarassment- he doesn't like being noticed. His powers fit the sentiment well, He has mostly uncontrollable force-field capabilties- that usually manifest when he has the hiccups. Lately, his papers have had charicatures of Siren drawn into the margins, and has been noticed writing "Mrs. Siren Russel" on scraps of paper.

Geoff "Pixel" Kidd
A tounge like honey and an addictive personality only adds to the intrigue of this charming telepathic Senior. Once able to hear everything being thought around him, St. Joes has helped him refine and focus his abilites. He is also able to practically talk anyone into anything, which may be in part to his ability to plant subliminal messages directly into someones brain. It's a good thing Siren has minor telepathic abilites of her own, huh?

Tetsuke "E-Male" Yogimoto
This quick-witted Junior immigrated to the US with his parents from Japan when his mother was four months pregnant with him. His parents, both come to America to work as bio-chemists, had no idea that the chemical agent they worked with, would produce a mutation in thier unborn child, giving him the power to manipulate and control electricity. A brilliant writer, he often writes short love-poems for Siren, and slips them into her bookbag, or into her locker.

Renia Adams
An open lesbian, Renia is a empath whose powers derive from an amulet belonging to her late Mother, a casualty of the Rikti invasion. Her empathic powers make it difficult for her to hurt anyone- physically, emotionally, or psychologically, and is currently working on being able to close the door to other people's emotions. She also sucsessfully petioned to be allowed to wear a boy's uniform, and is currently the only girl in school to do so. What Siren thinks about a female admierer is unknow at this time.
