Original intro, 2006-07-26
A touch of magic runs in the Bastian family. Timothy's father, Roger, is a motivational speaker. His inborn magical gifts allow him to inspire others to work towards their greater potentials. Roger's father, Wilbert, was a door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman. He used his gifts to inspire others to clean using the latest Hoover model. Timothy is still learning to use his powers, but so far he shows a lot more promise than has been seen in several generations.
Timothy has been doing assignments for MAGI to fulfill his community service sentence. He was recently found guilty of extortion. He had been using his magical powers to coerce others into giving him money. Discussions with his social worker revealed that he had developed something of a gambling problem and needed the money to pay off debts.
Timothy's parents were naturally very disappointed with his behavior. Being nominal Catholics, they decided to send him to Saint Joseph School in hopes that he would be provided with the guidance and supervision necessary to put him on a better path.
Timothy wants nothing to do with his assignments from MAGI. He also resents the fact that he's been sent to a Catholic school. Having no desire to work for the public good, he tends to look down on the other heroes he sometimes ends up working with. He tends to have a somewhat negative disposition while on patrol.
At times (and especially while on patrol) he may come across as a rather rude, stuck-up jerk. Much of this is him hating the situation he's in (even though it's his own fault) and trying to cover up for his insecurities. He's very selfish, but he isn't really a bad person.
Update, 2007-12-03
Timothy has had an eventful life since he came to Saint Joe's. Shortly after showing up, he became extremely close friends with Barjnal -- so close that his parents eventually adopted Barjnal, since he had no family of his own. Early on, he made a few other tentative friends, but primarily he kept himself behind his antisocial wall.
Life became much more turbulent for Timothy as Christmas approached, making itself evident in a failed suicide attempt. Afterwards, he temporarily left Saint Joe's and was homeschooled for a while, but eventually was allowed to come back under strict supervision and with frequent counseling. Initially, he was even more cantankerous than before, further alienating the few friends he'd had before. Later, under threat of being sent to a military school, he began acting more friendly... but only as an act to hopefully stave off the transfer.
Then the Rikti showed up, and like everyone else, Timothy found himself struggling through the state of emergency. Like many of his peers, he contributed to the war effort as he could. When the Rikti backed off and life started to get back to normal, Timothy began to worry about military school once again. As it happened, though, things worked out for him so that he could stay at St. Joe's. As the 2007-2008 school year began, Timothy was keeping increasingly to himself and had all but stopped heroing.
Update, 2008-01-10
As the 2007 fall semester started, Timothy largely kept to himself and had only minimal involvement with the rest of the school. What involvement he did have tended to be polite, though terse. It was during this time that he started his weekly counseling sessions with Valerie Atwood. Much to the surprise of both Timothy and Valerie, Timothy started to slowly open up during his counseling sessions with her. Though he's far from having resolved many of the things that bother him, as the year closed he was finally starting to at least confront some of them.
In December, Timothy approached Barjnal and renewed their friendship. The two still seem somewhat unsure of each other at times, but they seem distinctly closer than they had been in the previous months. As the new year dawned, Timothy was starting to isolate himself less. His interactions with his peers are now less hostile than they were in the past, and while he still tends to be acerbic at times, he's a much more tolerable person to be around much of the time--at times, even approaching friendly. He's also been starting to head out on patrol again.
Update, 2008-05-25
Timothy graduated from Saint Joseph School in May of 2008 after having kept a fairly low profile through his final months in high school. The few people who are closer to Timothy and Barj might know that they're planning to take a year off before going to college, during which they're going to more closely study their magical abilities.
Issue 15 Update (2009-07-12)
Timothy has been settling in nicely since his return to Saint Joe's a few months ago. He has begun to come out of his shell some, interacting with people in a bit more open of a fashion. He's fairly amiable much of the time, though he's certainly no stranger to occasional acerbic or sarcastic remarks.
He has also joined up with Out of the Blue, primarily as a keyboardist though he also chimes in as a rhythm guitarist when needed. If asked, he's likely to claim that his reason for joining was to get London to stop nagging him about it, but it's fairly clear he enjoys being a part of the band.
Timothy hasn't really advertised the fact that he was reverse-aged or that he had attended Saint Joe's before. He's told a few people parts of the story, and certainly those people who knew him when he attended St. Joe's the first time are likely to wonder about it, but by and large thus far he's allowed most of his peers to believe that this is his first time at St. Joe's.
