The Interview Process

Post by Lagomorph » Wed Aug 05, 2009 3:40 pm

Every new student undergoes an interview by a ranking member of the supergroup. While each interview is different, there are common questions that you should be prepared to answer. Ultimately, it is the interviewer's decision whether or not your character is appropiate for enrollment, so it pays to be prepared. If you cannot decide on the answers to some of these questions, it does not necessarily mean that you cannot enroll, however, the more complete a picture of your character that you provide will certainly help you.
  • Interviews are conducted out-of-character.
  • Be familiar with the Code of Conduct and our themes. While you will not be asked specific details, you may be asked questions that demonstrate you've read and understand them. If you have questions about anything you've read so far, this is a great time to ask them.
  • You'll be asked to describe any previous roleplaying experience. This can include MMORPGs, other online environments, LARPs, tabletop games, or even professional or amateur theatrical work. If you don't have any previous experience, do not be overly concerned. Many of our longtime members had no experience when they began. We ask not because it is a requirement, but because we are interested in our players as well as their characters.
  • The core of the interview will, of course, concern your ideas about your character concept: the character's backstory, motivations, and goals. Paramount is that your character must have a reason to be at a super-powered high school. If you do not have a reason to be at Saint Joe's, you will not be enrolled.
  • If there are problematic elements of your concept, you may be asked to think about alternatives. Try to be open and understanding. There are ideas and concepts that have proved very troublesome in the past, and so we try to address them during the interview, rather than risk having them become issues later on.
  • At the conclusion of your interview, you may be immediately enrolled, denied enrollment, asked to re-think troublesome elements and re-apply, or asked to wait for approval while your interviewer consults with other members of the supergroup. This decision is left to the sole discretion of your interviewer. No one is guaranteed enrollment.
  • All interviews are recorded and summarized on our forums. If for whatever reason your immediate enrollment is denied, you may seek enrollment at a later date or from a different interviewer, but understand that the same quesions may be asked when you do.
  • If you feel as though you have been treated unfairly by your interviewer, please ask to be referred to a member of the Student Council.
